Park at the Aigaux car park, where it is best to arrive early in the morning as spaces are at a premium after 10 a.m.
(S/E) Go through the barrier, then follow the wide stony path, which allows you to warm up gently in the midst of a very pleasant wooded environment. Go to the first crossroads.
(1) Keep left instead of following the path on the right that leads to the refuge. This path, flanked by pastures, then becomes flat for more than 1 km.
(2) You get into the thick of it by taking a forest path that climbs steeply to your right. Apart from the slope, the terrain is not difficult, but remain vigilant in case of rain. About 200 m higher up, follow the main path that turns right in front of a rocky outcrop marked with numbers (21-23-24-25), the meaning of which I still don't know. Staying on the main path, the slope becomes a little steeper, but nothing insurmountable.
(3) The end of this climb coincides with a crossroads where, on your left, you rejoin the yellow/green and red/white marked trail. Continue to the right: follow these markings all along the ridge.
(4) You will reach the Pas de Bellecombe (signposted), which offers breathtaking 360° views. Continue straight ahead along the ridge, ignoring the path that descends to the plateau. After the fork, continue to follow the ridge to the Pas de l'Ours.
(5) At this point, you can descend directly to the refuge via a fairly steep path on the right. If not (depending on the route you choose), continue straight ahead towards Charande, which will be the highest point of the walk.
(6) Pass through Pas de la Lose, ignoring the track on your left that leads to Autrans.
(7) Once you reach Charande, there are plenty of picnic spots around you. Once you have eaten and rested, continue along the path towards Pas du Tracollet.
(8) From there, the shortcut on your right takes you more directly back to the trailhead, while the one on the left leads to the pleasant Feneys refuge. Ignore both and continue along the ridge until you reach the road at a car park and orientation table.
(9) Turn right onto the wide path leading to the shepherd's house. The rest of the return journey is flat or downhill.
(10) At the fork, continue to the right and head for the Molière Lodge.
(11) Go straight ahead, leaving the path on your right that leads directly to Pas de l'Ours.
(12) About 500 metres after passing the refuge, take the path on the left almost opposite (otherwise you will go back up to Pas de Bellecombe) and follow it to the drinking troughs, where you will follow the signs for Les Merciers and Chasau.
(13) After a very narrow passage between the fences, you will find yourself back in the forest, but this time descending. Turn left and follow the main route, which descends more and more steeply.
(14) Keep to the right at the fork and continue downhill until you reach the Route des Merciers. Follow it uphill on the right for 200 metres to return to the car park (S/E).
