The Fontaine de Vauchon fountain from Cordiron

An easy route through the countryside. Peaceful, wide open, gently rolling landscapes. Woods and fields. Two beautiful fountains and a fortified castle, one of the last in Franche-Comté to still have a standing keep.

Description of the walk

Coming from Recologne, park at the entrance to Cordiron in a small car park on the left, opposite the château, which is recognisable by its square tower.

(S/E) Take the D149 eastwards (towards Franey, Recologne). When the pavement ends, continue carefully. Then turn right onto the path. At the next crossroads, take the grassy path in the middle that runs alongside the woods.

(1) Take the grassy path that branches off to the left at a right angle. If you are unsure between two parallel paths, follow the one on the right. The path soon splits. Take the one that veers to the left and climbs steadily.

(2) At the top, turn right and join a wide path.

(3) Follow it to the right until you reach the signpost marked "Fontaine de Vauchon 100 m".

(4) Descend via a grassy path to the Fontaine de Vauchon (signposted).

(5) Turn around.

(4) Take the path on the right. At the next crossroads, turn right. At the edge of the woods, follow the path on the left until you reach a road.

(6) Follow it to the right until you reach a fork.

(7) Continue straight ahead to the car park. Cross the D146 with caution, passing in front of the castle entrance. 150 m further on, you will see the fountain-wash house on your left below. Pass by the wash house.

(8) Turn left onto the grassy path that climbs uphill. At the top, turn left to join the D149, follow it to the left to reach the car park (S/E).
