Start from the Greffière car park located on the edge of the D1005 road (between Les Dappes and La Vattay).
(S/E) Take the track heading north-east. At thefirst fork (elevation 1280), continue on the left. Shortly afterwards, you will cross the French-Swiss border. Join a small road.
(1) Follow it to the right, heading due east until you reach the next junction.
(2) Continue straight ahead. Pass Grand Sonnailley and Petit Senailley on your right and follow the border until you reach an intersection with a turn-off to the left.
(3) Continue left, following the signs for La Dôle, until you reach a path on the right.
(4) Take this path on the right uphill (signpost towards La Dôle) until you reach a fork.
(5) Take the path on the right (ignore the sign pointing directly left towards La Dôle). After a slight bend, climb up a valley to its end (north-east direction). Then pass through a small opening in a wall (red mark) and you will soon reach another path.
(6) Continue to the right (yellow markings). Descend to the bottom of a small valley. You will arrive at some buildings (Chalet de la Dôle and the lower station of the Dôle cable car).
(7) Turn left towards Chalet des Apprentis. At the intersection shortly after, turn left again towards Col de Porte and La Dôle. Climb a few steep slopes, heading north-west, to reach Col de Porte.
(8) Take thefirst path on the left towards La Dôle. After a short stretch through wooded countryside, the path continues through pastureland. Pass the ski lift arrival point, turn left and join the ridge.
(9) Follow it southwards and, after a steady climb, you will reach the summit of La Dôle with its distinctive "big balloon" (orientation table, panoramic view of Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc).
(10) From the summit, there are two options:
- Go back a little (north) and quickly turn left.
- As shown on the map, continue south to the last building. Then turn right twice to go around the buildings, climbing a few steps.
In both cases, then descend towards the arrival area of the Dôle chairlift, which is clearly visible.
(11) Then continue straight ahead (north) on a wide path. Descend gently for a while until you reach a Y-junction.
(12) Turn left. The slope becomes steeper. Ignore a path coming from the right and continue north-west. Join another path and follow it to the left. Then look for a path on the left.
(13) Follow it (no signposts). Climb slightly and ignore the access to the Chalet de Reculet Dessus on your left. Head towards the chairlift pylons until you are directly below the chairlift line.
(14) Turn left and climb up under the line for a few dozen metres. Then turn right and follow a pleasant path through wooded surroundings for a long time, heading south-west. You will arrive at some pastures and reach the Sonnailley au Prince chalet (remember to close the gates behind you).
(15) Continue south-west on a small road and return to the crossroads you took on the way out.
(2) Continue right for about 250 m uphill.
(1) Follow a path to the left that leads back to the Greffière car park (S/E).
