The route starts from the car park at the bottom of the “Chez Mamac” restaurant. To get there, shortly after the La Cure border post heading towards Saint-Cergue, take the road leading uphill on the left (Chemin de l’Avant-Poste). You can also park in the station car park and walk to this same road.
(S/E) Head east and walk past the restaurant.
(1) After about 150 m, turn right into the mountain pasture. At the junction (elevation 1205, building on the left), go straight on. Climb gradually, keeping a north-easterly direction, until you reach a fork at elevation 1270.
(2) Turn left towards Le Noirmont. The climb is quite steep at first.
(3) Join the Noirmont green ski run; follow it to the right and uphill. The path is wide but quite steep in places. You’ll reach a well-preserved old boundary marker (you’re still in Switzerland; sweeping views).
(4) Continue east then north-east and, via a winding path, reach the summit of Le Noirmont (cross; very extensive panorama).
(5) Descend on the other side, heading towards the Creux du Croue (north then north-north-east). Pass by the Noirmont des Français (slightly lower than the original summit) and walk along the cliff face of the Creux du Croue, a pretty cirque containing a peat bog and an alpine chalet. After a long walk, you’ll reach a fork in the path.
(6) Turn right and, at the junction that appears immediately, turn left (north-north-east). Climb up the hillside along the lovely path towards the Croue alpine farm.
(7) At the fork, turn left towards the Croue alpine farm, visible at the top of a short climb. Walk past the chalet and reach an information board.
(8) Then turn left towards Mont Sâla. Walk north-east until you reach a reservoir in the area known as the Cimetière aux Bourguignons (a reminder of a French defeat in 1476; the cross that marked the spot appears to have disappeared).
(9) Continue along the path, which heads north and then east.
(10) At the Chalet des Électriciens, turn right towards Mont Sâla. Climb quickly to the summit, which offers sweeping views across the Alps, including the Mont Blanc massif and Lake Geneva.
(11) Retrace your steps to the Croue mountain chalet and then to the fork in the path below it.
(7) Turn left into the Combe aux Tassons towards the Chalet d’Arzière (south-south-west).
(12) At the chalet, turn right onto the path towards La Cure / Les Coppettes.
(13) At the Coppettes chalet, continue down towards La Cure. You will reach a junction you passed at the start of the walk.
(2) Carry on straight ahead and, following the outward route in the opposite direction, return to the starting car park (S/E).
