Prémanon - Le Manon

Fifteenth stage of the Échappée Jurassienne. In the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park, this stage will quickly take you to the highest point, the Belvédère des Dappes. This is followed by a crossing of the Forêt du Massacre, rich in exceptional flora and fauna, with varied landscapes alternating between thick forests and open valleys. You will also discover some curiosities and pretty summer chalets. Enjoy this beautiful forest, taking care not to stray from the marked paths and trails to preserve the tranquillity of the area!

From the Combe à la Chèvre and its tall gentians, you will reach the village of Lajoux, home to the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park.

Description of the walk

Red and white GR®9 and GR®509 markings and specific signs bearing the symbol "J

(S) From the La Grenotte stopover lodge, turn left to climb up and join the Route des Jouvencelles at the signpost for "Les Cressonnières".

(1) Turn right, cross the D29 very carefully, then head left towards the Stade Nordique des Tuffes. Continue for about 20 metres and leave the tarmac road to follow a grassy path on the right. After a steep climb, you will reach the signpost for "Mur des Tuffes".

(2) Continue the steeper climb through the woods towards the Belvédère des Dappes. After admiring the view of the Jura Mountains, continue to the signpost for the Belvédère des Dappes, located 200 metres further on.

(3) Turn left towards Les Tuffes/La Darbella and continue along the Montagne des Tuffes until you reach the small hut at Les Tuffes.

(4) At the signpost for Les Tuffes, turn left towards Chalet de la Frasse. Quickly leave the Forestière des Tuffes road and turn left (south-east) onto a forest path and enter the Forêt du Massacre. Please note! This forest is rich in exceptional flora and fauna, with varied landscapes alternating between thick forests and open glades. Stay on the marked paths and trails to preserve the peace and quiet of the area! Continue until you reach the Route Forestière des Tuffes.

(5) Follow a wooded path, more or less parallel to the Route Forestière des Tuffes, before joining it. Continue south-west to the Chalet Forestier du Massacre.

(6) Continue along the Route Forestière du Massacre. Ignore the PR® signpost for the Chalet de la Frasse until you reach the signpost for Épicéa Muté.

(7) Leave the forest road and turn left towards Lajoux. (Caution! Here , the signposting changes and is suitable for cross-country skiing). Continue through the woods and then the vast meadows of the Combe à la Chèvre to reach the chalet of the same name.

(8) Continue towards Lajoux on wide grassy paths, pass a large well on your left and continue to the signpost Sous la Regarde.

(9) Caution! There is a risk of taking the wrong route here. Keep going in the same direction but veer slightly to the left (south-west) onto a descending path. Keep heading towards Lajoux until you reach a paved road at an altitude of 1271 metres.

(10) Turn left (south-west) across the meadow and follow the signs, then continue until you reach a chalet covered with solar panels at a place called La Sermangindre.

(11) Head south-west across the meadow, following the signs for Lajoux. Cross this vast grassy area to reach a place called Pièce du Châtelain.

(12) Turn right (north-west) and continue to the small paved road at the signpost marked "La Beaumette".

(13) Turn left, then quickly turn right onto the wide, slightly uphill gravel road. Pass the Chalet de la Baumette and continue to the intersection at the signpost "Sur les Adrets".

(14) Head west on Chemin des Adrets until you reach Route de sur les Champs opposite the signpost for "Sous les Champs".

(15) Keep left towards Lajoux and continue to the signpost at the intersection with Route de Saint-Claude.

(16) Turn left and continue to the Fruitière de Lajoux (cheese dairy, supplies available). Note: you are 300 metres from the Maison du Parc du Haut Jura if you continue straight ahead.

(17) Keep right after the cheese dairy, following signs for Septmoncel/Le Manon, then after a right-angle turn, continue northeast until you reach a path along the Route de Saint-Claude at a place called La Petite Joux.

(18) Follow the Route de Saint-Claude on your right for a few metres, then take the path downhill towards the Grange du Coulet. You will arrive in front of the Grange du Goulet (Expo Photos).

(19) Continue along the path towards the south-west until you reach the D292E4 in the hamlet of Manon.

(20) Look for a discreet place to camp in the hamlet (E), asking the locals for advice.

(3) Belvédère des Dappes

from (5) to (12) Crossing the Massacre forest, rich in exceptional flora and fauna, with varied landscapes alternating between thick forests and open valleys. You will also see some curiosities and pretty summer chalets.

(17) Village of Lajoux. At an altitude of 1,165 metres, Lajoux is the highest village in the Jura Mountains.
This small family resort is located on a sunny plateau in the heart of the Regional Nature Park and enjoys a magnificent view of the Haute Chaîne des Monts Jura. Within its boundaries, the famous Forêt du Massacre (named in memory of the bloody battle between the troops of François I and the Duke of Savoy in 1535) now offers sports enthusiasts the chance to enjoy cross-country skiing on beautiful trails with exceptional snow cover.
