Park in front of the Espace des Mondes Polaires, which serves as the Tourist Information Centre.
(S/E) Head towards Les Rousses. Cross the junction to the left, then go through the small car park and turn left: follow the sign for ‘Sur le Goulet, Pont Perroud’.
Before the nursery school, turn right onto Rue du Pont Perroud. Follow the road to the end: the tarmac road becomes a track leading into the forest; this track veers to the right and leads onto a private property. Pass to the right of the electricity pole (yellow marker), follow the wall above the houses to enter the forest. Follow the track down to the road leading to the farm called Sur le Goulet.
(1) Turn left onto the road towards Chez Jeankessis and, once you reach the hamlet, you’ll come out onto the Morez–Prémanon road (D25). Cross the road; the path is slightly to the left of the post topped with a yellow marker (high-voltage power line). When you reach a crossroads, turn right to head down towards the Belvédère des Maquisards.
(2) At the sign for “Sur le belvédère”, continue straight on. At the bottom, cross the D25 again to reach the viewpoint , which offers a remarkable view of the Bienne Valley (opposite), the Rocher du Turu (to the right) and Mont Fier (to the left).
This viewpoint honours the memory of a young member of the Resistance who died here in late August 1944 during a battle against the Germans, who were advancing towards the Fort des Rousses, which was under siege by the Maquis. Retrace your steps and walk back up the path for about 300 metres.
(2) At the signpost ‘Sur le belvédère’ indicating ‘Sur le leat, Pont Perroud’ to the left, turn left. Cross the D25 once more and take, almost directly opposite and slightly to the left, the tarmac road that leads into the forest.
(3) When you come to a junction, you have two options: take the left-hand path, which is quite difficult, stony with large boulders and leads straight down (the route we’ve chosen)
or continue straight on (yellow mark on a tree: the path is a dirt track, but when it joins the other path, it descends via a very steep and slippery zigzag).
You can hear the murmur of the Leat de la Chaille, then you come upon the old Pont Perroud, the waterfall and the ruins of the old mill, which bear witness to the significant energy requirements in the Haut-Jura in the past for milling, sawing, iron forging, etc.
(4) Cross the bridge and turn left towards “Le Bonzon, Les Rousses” onto the path which climbs and quickly veers to the right.
(5) At the sign for “Le Bonzon”, turn right towards “Sous le saut, Leat de la Chaille, Prémanon”.
(6) At the “Sous le saut” sign, turn right towards “La passerelle, Leat de la Chaille, Prémanon”. Cross the footbridge and head up towards Prémanon, following the red and whiteGR®® markings.
You’ll reach a tarmac road on arriving at Prémanon d’Amont.
(7) Continue straight on from the “Les trolles” bus stop. Stay on the road to reach Prémanon and, once in the village, go straight on to return to the starting point (S/E).
