Park at the Place de la Mairie in Hautes-Rivières.
(S/E) Head towards the church and walk along its right-hand side to join the Transsemoysienne. Follow the Transsemoysienne to the right until you reach Rue du Comodo.
Walk up Rue du Comodo, turning left. At the top, at the fork, leave the Transsemoysienne and head left (north) to La Roche Margot (yellow markings)
(1) Turn left to reach the orientation table and the viewpoint over the village of Les Hautes-Rivières. Return to the original path and follow it to the left. The path descends slightly then turns left to begin a steep descent before turning left again. Continue to a junction as you approach the cemetery.
(2) Head down to the right, pass by the cemetery and join the access road to it (Rue de Mellier). Turn right and continue in the same direction until you reach the Route de Linchamps (RD13).
(3) Cross the road and continue straight ahead along Rue du Petit Ohan. Just before the Ruisseau de Saint-Jean, turn right onto Rue des Pâquis and continue to Noiregoutte (signposted).
(4) Head up to the left along the Ruisseau de Noiregoutte towards La Dauphiné. The first 50 metres of the path can be difficult to distinguish from the stream when the water level is high; it is possible to go round it on the right.
The climb is steep up to the site of the old village.
(5) Once past the last ruins, head left (west) to rejoin theGR®® marked in white and red.
(6) Turn left and follow theGR®® trail. Head straight down to the Voye à l’Âne (signposted).
(7) Head straight ahead to reach the Col de la Vieille Voie.
(8) Climb up to the right, a section where you’ll need to use your hands, to reach the site of Linchamps Castle and, at its far end, the Chaise de la Fileuse. Caution is advised throughout this section.
(9) Return to the Col de la Vieille Voie.
(8) Turn left to reach the Voye à l'Âne.
(7) Keep to the right on the Transsemoysienne and continue to the junction with Rue du Petit Ohan (signposted).
(10) Continue straight ahead to Rue de la Gare, then turn right towards the Newet bridge. Cross the Semoy and head towards the sports complex, ignoring the streets on either side.
(11) Continue straight on to the sewage treatment plant, then turn left uphill to reach La Hatrelle (signposted). This section has recently been tarmac-surfaced to create an access road to the Newet district in anticipation of major works on the bridge.
(12) At the top of the climb, turn left onto the ridge path to reach the Croix d’Enfer viewpoint. Continue in the same direction after the viewpoint. At the next junction, head down to the right onto theGR®® to the bridge. (narrow path on the hillside)
Cross the Semoy, then turn left immediately to reach the riverbank. Turn right to follow the riverbank, then follow theGR®® which, via a narrow lane, joins Rue de l’Hôtel de Ville. Turn right to return to the starting point (S/E).
