Description of the walk

The hike starts on the Rampon quarry road (D194 between Verzé and Cluny). You can park just after the "Randonnée" sign on the right-hand side of the road.
White markings.

(S/E) Continue along the path towards the D194 for a few metres, then take the path on the right into the woods. Follow the white markings. Be careful of the many paths in the woods, which should be ignored. The descent to the stream is quite steep.

(1) Cross the small stream, then climb up to the Croix Montmain.

(2) Col de la Croix Montmain (altitude 500 m). Crossroads of the roads from Verzé, Igé and Cluny. A memorial commemorates the sacrifice of the Montmain resistance fighters (1944). Cross the Verzé road to take theGR®76A, known as the Chemin des Chevaliers, and turn left at the first fork.

(3) When you reach the Croix du Prunier, continue straight ahead on theGR®. On the descent, as you leave the woods, you will have a clear view of the Val Lamartinien and, in particular, the fortress of Berzé-le-Châtel.

(4) When you reach the road, do not follow it, but immediately take the path on the left that descends to the hamlet of Les Tardys.

(5) Cross the hamlet to the bottom, turning left just after the junction with the Route de Berzé-la-Ville. Join the departmental road and follow it to the right until you reach the first path on the left in the bend (Chemin de la Tête Nicole).

(6) Follow this picturesque path lined with low walls. View of the hamlet of Vaux Pré. Join the junction with another path.

(7) Turn right for a few metres, then immediately left into the woods. Please note that the entrance to the path is not very visible. Continue straight ahead to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

- A few steps from the start, you can visit the Rampon quarry discovery trail. This is a marked trail that is accessible to all. Punctuated with information panels and a landscape reading table, it reveals the geological diversity of the site. Volcanic and granitic rocks formed 300 million years ago, sedimentary rocks bearing witness to the presence of the sea in the region, and a deposit full of footprints of the ancestors of the first dinosaurs.

- At the point (4), the trail on the other side of the road leads to the ruins of a medieval tower about 700 metres away.

- At point (5), in the hamlet of Les Tardys, you can see a house with a lava roof, an old oratory and a tithe barn built by the monks of Cluny.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

A beautiful hike sheltered by trees, so it's less hot. Good climbs and descents, but very pleasant to do. The signposting is well done, but unfortunately there are few views of the surroundings, just the castle of Berzé le Chatel.

The path is particularly well marked with white lines and marked V1. At the start, take a short detour to the Rampon quarry! See dinosaur tracks and learn about the geology of the area. The little path is very pleasant at the end. The colours are wonderful at this time of year. This pleasant walk is not difficult.

The entire route is shaded, which is ideal for summer. However, there are few views.
A section before the 'Montmain cross' is in dire need of clearing. Wear trousers if you don't want to get stung by nettles, brambles and mosquitoes.
For your information, the crosses here are crossroads, not monuments!
