From Col de la Percée to Mont Saint-Romain

A pleasant walk offering beautiful landscapes and viewpoints, between forest and meadows bordered by low dry-stone walls. The steepness is very gradual on the first part of the walk, allowing you to reach the summit of Mont Saint-Romain without any particular difficulty. On the return journey, the slopes are steeper, but never unmanageable. A perfect walk for those who want a good outing but don't want to put too much strain on their legs.

Description of the walk

Start from Col de la Percée (roadside parking available).

(S/E) Head due North on the GR® 76A, which climbs gently above the road. Follow this GR® to the summit of Mont Saint-Romain.

(1) At the crossroads, continue straight on, following the GR® signs. You may wish to make a short detour to see Notre-Dame des Roches. About 40m further on, ignore the left-hand path, which will be the return path, and continue straight ahead until you reach the road (D146).

(2) When you reach the road, take the track ahead, slightly to the left, to pass an ironmonger's shop in Grande Terre. Continue straight ahead, heading North-East, following the GR® signs to a wide track.

(3) Turn right, then left, following the signs for Mont Saint-Romain (GR® markings still present). You are now entering the forest part of the walk.

(4) Further up, cross the small road at Col de la Croix and continue straight on. The path climbs through the woods, a little steeper than before.

(5) To enjoy the view, continue to the right, then to the left as you reach the small road leading to the summit of Mont Romain, some 250m away.

(6) Return to the road.

(5) To continue the loop, turn right down the path. There are no longer any markings, so you need to be a little more careful at crossroads. Reach a crossroads at La Mangette.

(7) Go straight on.

(8) The path passes just below the Grottes de Blanot, but you can climb up to the entrance via a small path on the left.

(9) Continue, turning left at the next crossroads, then right immediately after. Continue straight ahead on a narrow path leading down to Vivier.

(10) Cross the village, turning right onto the main road, then left down to the wash-house. The path continues in the direction of La Musette, then heads due South to Blanot.

(11) Pass through the village of Blanot, taking the main road (D146) to the right. You can visit the church and wash-house. Reach the Combes farm at the end of the village.

(12) Leave the road to take the path that climbs to the right. Further on, another crossroads before catching up with the path taken on the outward journey. Turn left to reach the first crossroads.

(1) Then follow the outward path back to the starting point (S/E).

The starting point indicated at the Col de la Percée is not very explicit. In my opinion, it's better to park in the large car park before coming from Donzy le Pertuis. Another minor problem on the way back to the same car park is that the GR76A is rather badly signposted at the end of the route. Otherwise, it's a very pretty walk.

Lovely walk with splendid views. The sign for the car park at the Col de la Percée is not very precise.

A 3.5 hour walk, mostly shaded. The village of Le Blanot is well worth a visit, with its 360-degree panoramic view of Mont St Romain.

Beautiful trails. However, we had a problem in Blanot. We asked 3 people about it, but they didn't know anything about the ferme des combes. We had to take the D146 before finding our way back. This slightly spoiled and lengthened the end of our walk.

Lovely walk with beautiful views and paths. Be careful, the two paths heading west under Mont St Romain are private, so take the one just below. There is a small stream at the bottom of the descent before arriving at the Blanot caves.
Goat's cheese is on sale at Blanot, but only in the morning (9-12am).
Small diversions (100 m) to see the statue either at the start or on the way back.
Depart from Donzy in the direction of Cortambert.

A very nice walk, easy, pleasant and with many viewpoints.
A small change could be made, small car park about 50 metres after the pass on the D117 towards Cortambert.
