Description of the walk

Park near the church.

(S/E) With your back to the church, head right for 40 metres and turn right towards Coussay-les-Bois, pass the war memorial and then turn left into Rue des Blinières. Continue straight on to reach Rue du Dolmen. Carry on until
the junction.

(1) Turn right, leaving the path straight ahead, and carry on to the junction with Rue Marquille.

(2) Leave Rue Marquille on your right and take the grassy path overlooking the countryside. Continue along the path and, just past the houses, look out for a path on the left lined with a hedge.

(3) Turn left onto this path, carry on straight ahead and pass the beautiful house known as ‘Le Pavillon’, then go to the right of the Goulinerie farm.

(4) After La Goulinerie, at the road junction, carry on straight ahead, skirting a field, then enter the Bois des Marineaux. On leaving the woods, turn right, join the D134, then turn left onto the D134 and head towards a junction.

(5) Turn right onto a track; 100 metres further on, keep to the left. Pass the electricity pylons and, immediately afterwards, turn left, leaving the houses behind you, then head right into the fields until you reach the road.

(6) Cross the road and take the path. Follow the path as it winds its way along, then continues alongside the woods and hedgerows. Back in the woods, at the junction of three paths, turn left and stay on this track until the next junction.

(7) Turn right, keeping the pylons on your left, then, at the end of the path, turn left and immediately afterwards turn right; follow the path between the two rows of pylons until you reach the T-junction.

(8) Turn left, pass under the pylons and then past a small pond, and continue to the road junction.

(9) At the snail farm, turn left, follow the road, then turn right at the next junction onto a stony path. Wind your way along this path through fields, woods and ponds until you reach a road.

(10) Turn left, walk past the Maison du Poitou and follow the stony path between the fields until you reach the edge of the woodland.

(11) Follow the path, then, at the next three-way junction, take the wider path on the right. Ignore the paths on the left and you’ll arrive at the Maillards leisure area.

(12) Then turn left, leaving the car park opposite, then turn right onto a shaded path leading to the “Les Vigneaux” lodge.

(13) Turn right onto the straight path, with a view of “Le Pavillon”, until you reach another wood. At the next junction, head down the lovely lane on the left. Continue along the path until you reach the hamlet known as Le Peneau.

(14) Turn right onto the road, carry on, then turn left at the next grassy track until you reach Rue du Dolmen, which you took on the way there.

(1) Carry on straight ahead and take thefirst right via Les Blinières, then turn left into Rue des Écoles to reach the car park near the church (S/E).

A really lovely walk. There’s always something new to discover in the French countryside and villages. It’s brilliant! You just need to look around, take your time, and there you go – you’re enjoying some happy moments.

A superb walk, but
tiring grassy paths (as the grass had been cut but left lying there)
worth doing again
