Description of the walk

Start from the square in front of Saint-Rémi Church.

The route is signposted with wooden signs (screwed onto posts) in the shape of inverted, crenellated arrows with three Green Circles carved into them; the orientation of these three Green Circles indicates the direction to follow.

(S/E) Head south-east along Rue de Guerstling. Pass the library, the grocery shop and Rue du Gobert on your left.

(1) After a left-hand bend and a final house, turn right (south-east) onto a grassy path. Shortly afterwards, take thefirst path on the right, between two fields. Note the Château de la Gabillère in the distance on the left, and the church bell tower on the right. After a left-hand bend, head down into a small wood.

(2) At the bottom, cross a tarmac road and take the path opposite that runs along the right-hand side of a pond. Cross the bridge over the Ozon and then head straight up. At the top, you’ll come out onto a tarmac road; turn left and follow it for about fifty metres. Just before the hamlet of La Bûchellerie, turn right onto a path heading towards the fields.

(3) At the junction (view of Chenevelles), turn left and, after about 50 metres, left again. Head back down towards the hamlet of La Bûchellerie until you reach the road. Stay on this road for about 400 m. Pass the first marker and, two metres after the second marker, turn left onto a wooded path that descends (be careful to spot this turn-off).

(4) Cross the woods until you reach a field and then a road. Cross the road and take the path opposite, slightly to the right, heading towards Tournepart (old mill). Cross the Ozon again and pass between two houses.

(5) Turn left onto a path and go round the back of the house on the left. Stay on this path (not shown on the map) which runs alongside the old leat of the mill. You’ll come out onto a road; follow it to the right for about twenty metres and take thefirst right, a road that climbs towards La Gabillère. At the top, turn left towards La Gabillère and reach the entrance to the château.

(6) Then take thesecond path on the right (north), flanked by trees. Further on, cross a road and, on the other side, take a grassy path that descends to the left. Cross a stream and head back up to a junction.

(7) Turn right and continue uphill to the hamlet of Les Boisdinières. Cross the hamlet, turning left at the junction. Just before a cross and a rubbish bin, take a grassy path on the left. At the end, you’ll come to a junction you passed on the way there.

(1) Turn right and return to the church square (S/E).

There was a slight mistake at number 3 (the route was fine up to that point, but we turned right there). The walk itself is well-marked, but the paths haven’t been cleared of weeds and there are some dangerous sections where you can’t see where you’re putting your feet!!! Preserving the environment is all well and good up to a point; perhaps we should contact the village council.

A lovely nature walk, though there is one aggressive dog to avoid by going round a farm
