The walk starts in the centre of Mouilleron-en-Pareds, from Place De Lattre opposite the church with its 12th-century fortified bell tower.
(S/E) Take Rue Georges Clemenceau towards Saint-Maurice-Le-Girard. Just after the square, turn left onto Rue Charles-Louis Largeteau.
Before reaching Rue Nationale, turn right onto Rue du Pont Dogue, then left onto Rue du Petit Château. Just after joining Rue de la Motte, you will see the start of the Sentier des Meuniers on your right.
(1) Follow the sunken path up the hill and take the path on the left leading up to the cross. Go behind it and cross the rocks. At one point, the path descends to the right. Do not follow it, but climb over the rocks and continue along their crest until you find the path that descends to the left of the rocks. Follow it to a road.
(2). Cross the road and take the path on the left, which continues to climb. You will arrive at the Maréchal De-Lattre-de-Tassigny memorial.
(3) Continue straight ahead and take the road closed by a barrier. It leads to the Mouilleron Mills and Rocks. Either continue along the road or go and see the mills.
Continue along the road to the barrier.
(4) Take the path on the left that goes downhill, then the path on the right that crosses the woods. Continue straight ahead (east) for about 1.250 km. Take the path on the right and then, after about a hundred metres, turn right again. A few dozen metres further on, at a fork, turn left and go up the path to a trail on the right that goes up through the woods. The path is quite steep. You will come to a crossroads with an old hiking trail sign. From here, you can climb up to the Vierge de la Dent Gaudin, where you will have a beautiful view of the Rocher de Cheffois.
(5) Return to the crossroads and follow the sign for "sentier touristique pédestre" (tourist footpath). Continue straight ahead through the woods. You will come across an unrestored mill on your way.
(6) At the second crossroads, take the path on the right which will bring you back to a road. Follow it to the right where you will find two other mills, one of which has completely collapsed, then an orientation table. Continue straight ahead to find the barrier that was after the restored mills
(4) Go straight ahead, then, just after the barrier, take the path on the left that enters the woods. Follow the road through the woods and arrive behind the restored mills. Continue along a path that descends to a car park. Cross it and turn left at the road, then right at the crossroads. You will arrive at the place where the first sunken path was cut off by a road.
(2) Take the sunken lane on the left that descends towards the village, at the picnic area, and do not take the one that goes over the rocky ridge.
(1) When you reach the village, turn left onto Rue de la Motte until you reach an old manor house. Turn right opposite the manor house onto Rue de la Fontaine and walk past the fountain and the old village wash house, then rejoin Rue Charles Louis Largeteau at the town hall. Turn left to return to the starting point of the walk (S/E).
A varied landscape offering beautiful unobstructed views of the hills. You can see Mont des Alouettes in the distance. Most of the old windmills have been restored and are a delight to see. We followed small, shaded and well-maintained paths. The hike is very accessible and not very busy. We had a peaceful time with our dog
