(S/E) From Place du Bail (see: Maison de Mélusine (tourist office), Tour Mélusine), take Rue du Duc d'Aquitaine southwards (in a small cul-de-sac on the left: Cour du Miracle). Leave the road that passes in front of the architecturally interesting church on your left and continue straight ahead to Place du Corps des Gardes.
(1) Cross the square to reach Rue Basse des Remparts. Further on, take the street on the right that leads to the Porte de la Poterne. Pass under the archway, then cross the bridge.
(2) Immediately afterwards, take the road that climbs to the left. It crosses the village of Petit Château. Pass in front of the holiday village to finally reach the village of Les Granges.
(3) Take the small road on the right opposite a pretty farm with an external staircase.
Turn right onto a wide path. At the end, turn left and cross the village of La Folie.
(4) Continue straight ahead towards the forest 'La Gasse du Bois'. At the entrance to the forest, turn right (GR® de Pays signpost). Follow the path through the ferns until you reach a wide lane leading to the forest roundabout of Allée de Douard and Allée de la Belle Cépée.
(5) At this roundabout, take the path on the right that descends rapidly towards the river 'La Mère'.
At the lake, turn left, then leave the bridge on your right to reach the amusement park car park on your left. At the end of the car park, turn left, then right onto a path that climbs up to the plateau.
(6) You will then reach the Allée forestière de la Belle Cépée: turn right until you reach the road. Turn left, then further on, turn right onto the Allée forestière de la Pierre Blanche, which leads to a car park. Take the path on the right that descends towards a climbing rock. Stay on the path that descends to the lake, then turn left.
(7) When you reach a small house, follow the Ruisseau des Verreries stream up to the Pont du Déluge bridge. Take the steps up to the road.
(8) Take the path opposite, following the stream to the Gué de la Levrette.
(9) At the ford, go up to the left towards the forest path. Turn right and then, after 50 metres, turn left onto a small sloping path. Follow this path until you reach a ford, which you must cross.
After the ford, turn slightly left and then straight ahead (north).
After leaving the woods, the path passes close to a pond on the right.
(10) Immediately afterwards, take the path on the left to reach the village of Petite Rhée. At the end of the village, take the road on the right to reach the RD31.
(11) Turn left, then immediately left again.
(12) Before reaching the village of Les Granges, take the path on the right. Cross the road and take the path almost opposite, slightly to the left.
(13) At the end, turn left onto the road that goes downhill (Rue du Calvaire). At the bottom of this street, turn left again and cross the Roman bridge (also worth seeing: turn right at the bottom of Rue du Calvaire to see a wash house).
(14) Turn left onto Rue des Rangies, which runs alongside the river (picnic area).
Before the bridge, which you crossed at the start of the walk, go up the street on the right and pass under the Poterne gate. Continue straight ahead to reach Rue Basse des Remparts. Take Rue Théodolin almost opposite.
(15) When you reach Grande Rue, turn right, then left onto Rue de la Porte aux Moines. At the end of this street, turn left, then immediately left into the alleyway (Rue de l'Éscalier). Turn right, then left onto Rue Geoffroy. Pass in front of the Priory garden, which backs onto the sacristy of the church. You will arrive back on Grande Rue. Turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach Place du Bail (S/E).
