(S/E) From Place du Bail (must-sees: Maison de Mélusine (Tourist Office), Tour Mélusine), take Rue du Duc d'Aquitaine southwards (in a small cul-de-sac on the left: Cour du Miracle). Leave the road on your left that passes in front of the architecturally interesting church and head straight on towards Place du Corps des Gardes.
(1) Cross the square to reach Rue Basse des Remparts. Further on, take the road on the right leading to the Porte de la Poterne. Pass under the archway, then cross the bridge.
(2) Immediately afterwards, take the road that climbs to the left. It passes through the village of Le Petit Château. Pass the holiday village and eventually reach the village of Les Granges.
(3) Turn right onto the small road opposite a pretty farmhouse with an external staircase.
Turn right onto a wide path. At the end, turn left and walk through the village of La Folie.
(4) Continue straight on towards the ‘La Gasse du Bois’ forest. At the entrance to this woodland, turn right (GR®® de Pays signposting). You will then follow a path through the ferns and reach a wide avenue leading to the forest roundabout at the junction of the Allée de Douard and the Allée de la Belle Cépée.
(5) At this roundabout, turn right onto the path which descends steeply towards the river ‘La Mère’.
At the pond, turn left, then pass the bridge on your right to reach the amusement park car park on your left; at the end of this, turn left then right onto a path that climbs up to the plateau.
(6) You will then reach the Allée forestière de la Belle Cépée: turn right until you reach the road. Turn left, then further on, turn right onto the Allée forestière de la Pierre Blanche, which leads to a car park. Take the path on the right that descends towards a climbing rock. Stay on the path that descends to the lake, then turn left.
(7) When you reach a small cottage, follow the Ruisseau des Verreries upstream to the Pont du Déluge. Take the steps up to the road.
(8) Take the path opposite, following the stream to the Gué de la Levrette.
(9) At the ford, head up to the left towards the forest track. Turn right, then 50 metres further on, turn left onto a small sloping path. Follow this path to a ford, which you must cross.
After the ford, head slightly left then straight on (northwards).
After leaving the woods, the path passes close to a pond on the right.
(10) Immediately afterwards, take the path branching off to the left to reach the village of La Petite Rhée. On leaving the village, take the road on the right to reach the RD31.
(11) Turn left, then immediately left again.
(12) Before reaching the village of Les Granges, take the path on the right. Cross the road to take the path almost opposite, slightly to the left.
(13) At the end, turn left onto the road leading downhill (Rue du Calvaire). At the bottom of this street, turn left again and cross the Romanesque bridge (also worth seeing: a wash house, which can be reached by turning right at the bottom of Rue du Calvaire).
(14) Turn left into Rue des Rangies, which runs alongside the river (picnic area).
Before the bridge, which you crossed at the start of the walk, head up the street to the right and pass under the Poterne gate. Continue straight on to reach Rue Basse des Remparts. Take Rue Théodolin, almost directly opposite.
(15) You will reach the Grande Rue: turn right, then take Rue de la Porte aux Moines on the left. At the end of this street, turn left and then immediately left into the alleyway (Rue de l'Éscalier). Turn right and then left into Rue Geoffroy. Walk past the Prieuré garden, which backs onto the church sacristy. You will come out onto the Grande Rue again. Turn right onto it and continue straight on until you reach the Place du Bail (S/E).
