The Beaume Waterfall

An easy walk through the countryside around Solignac-sur-Loire. Ideal for autumn, when the days are getting shorter, or for a half-day outing. The waterfall is well worth a visit, especially after rain, as is the passage under the Baume.

Description of the walk

The walk starts from the centre of the village of Solignac-sur-Loire via the D27. Park in the car park by the town hall.

(S/E) Walk along the D27 for about 300 m, until you reach the first bend.

(1) Turn right onto a small road until you reach a crossroads.

(2) Take the wide track opposite and follow it to the end.

(3) Take the path on the left through the hedgerows until you reach the junction with theGR®3Fat elevation 841.

(4) Continue along theGR® to the right until you reach another junction. The path widens from there.

(5) Take the path on the left which descends to the bottom of the Beaume valley.

(6) Follow the path on the left down to the La Beaume waterfall.

(7) Head back up the path heading north.

(8) Head left under a beautiful arch that forms a cave. Duck your head to follow this section of the path. You’ll come out at a car park. From there, take the path opposite for about a hundred metres.

(9) At the junction of two paths, continue right along the path which climbs gently to leave the valley and come out onto a small road.

(10) Follow it for about 200 m to the left, then turn right above the greenway, which also leads to Solignac.

(11) Near the sewage treatment plant, turn onto the wide track on the left through farmland until you reach the D276.

(12) Cross it carefully and continue along the wide path to the right to rejoin the D276, which you will cross again at the 905 mark, taking care as before .
Follow this small street straight on (Rue de l'Iris), pass the stadium and continue to the road leading to the station. You are now in Solignac on the D276.

(13) Turn right and follow the road, then turn right, then left to reach the D27 and the village centre. Follow the main road on the right to return to the car park (S/E).

A pleasant walk, though the start and finish aren’t particularly interesting as they’re in full sun; an easy route; a very pretty waterfall; not many people around
Well-marked route

The Baume waterfall is well worth a visit. The waterfall itself is very popular, but the trail is relatively quiet. Beautiful views of the Devès massif and the Mézenc mountain range.

A superb, refreshing hike through beautiful landscapes and magnificent woodland trails. What can I say about the beauty of the waterfall? A very beautiful hike, the only downside being the last three kilometres on long trails in direct sunlight, but there was no other way to get back to the starting point. Thank you for the route and its reliability.

The route is well signposted and easy to follow. No problems at all. We were the only ones at the waterfall, which must be a rare occurrence. Thanks to the person who mapped out the walk.

A magnificent walk starting from the village of Solignac, which apparently comprises three circular loops
The first, idyllic section runs along meadows where cows shelter under the trees
The second section, which runs alongside the river amidst the fir trees, is splendid, featuring the waterfall, of course, and the Beaume (which we missed on our first attempt
There are picnic tables available
Finally, the third section is flatter, crossing fields and offering a 360-degree view of the surrounding area all the way back to the village
A very easy walk; we were the only ones there in February
We loved it, thank you
