The Chemin des Sources in Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaison

Starting from the pretty little village of Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaison, this easy, undemanding hike leads across the plateau through farmland and pastureland to the pretty hamlets of Tallobre, Eycenac and Dolaison. Water is plentiful here, with streams flowing down towards Le Puy-en-Velay. The end of the route is on the GR®65 (Way of St James).

Description of the walk

It is easy to park in Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaison, near the start, around the church or around the covered market. The walk starts from the car park of the small covered market opposite the town hall.

Yellow markings

(S/E) From this car park, turn right and take Rue des Écoles, perpendicular to the D31, until you reach a roundabout. Cross it, then take the second road on the left.

(1) Take the road slightly to the right, Chemin du Ruisseau, and continue along the grassy path until you reach the footbridge over a stream.

(2) Cross and continue left on the path that runs alongside a housing estate until you reach Route des Fontanilles.

(3) Cross this road, continue straight ahead and follow the track to the next crossroads.

(4) Turn right and continue to the D27 at the entrance to the hamlet of Tallobre.

(5) Turn left, follow this departmental road for about 300 m (watch out for traffic) and take the small Rue de la Tour on the left, then Rue du Pont on the right to rejoin the D27.

(6) Turn left and drive carefully along this road for about 500 m until you reach a Y-junction in the right-hand bend at the water treatment plant.

(7) Leave the D27 by taking the dirt track on the left, then continue to a new crossroads (cross).

(8) At this crossroads, be careful, as a new route has been created. Do not follow the old pink dotted line on the map that leads to the Champ Grand farm (dead end), but go straight ahead, following the direction indicated on the signpost marked: Chemin des Sources. Follow the yellow markings. Continue for 200 metres.

(9) Turn left onto the new route, which rejoins the old route a little further on and leads to the hamlet of Les Grèzes. Cross the hamlet.

(10) Leave the hamlet and follow the road, then a narrow dirt track to the hamlet of Eycenac. Cross the hamlet until you reach a crossroads.

(11) Turn left onto an uphill street and follow the marked path to Dolaizon.

(12) Before entering the hamlet, leave the dirt track and take the D31 on the left to the first houses in the village.

(13) Leave the D31 by turning right onto Rue des Bouleaux, cross the bridge over the Dolaizon and continue along Rue de la Gazelle until you reach a dirt track on the left. Continue along the path downhill, overlooking the Ruisseau de la Roche on your left, until you reach the footbridge. The concrete path climbs steeply but briefly to reach the GR®65 (Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle).

(14) Turn left, then take the GR®65 to the village of Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaison. As you enter, leave the pretty little village church on your right, then cross the D31 to reach the car park of the small market hall (S/E).
