Description of the walk

From the entrance to Cordon, follow the signs for "domaine skiable" to reach a car park which marks the end of the tarmac road. Please note that the back of the car park belongs to the restaurant.

(S/E) Enjoy the panoramic view from the car park, then head west along the track that continues from the road. It ends with a right-hand bend that takes you to the top station of the ski lift.

(1) Before the ski lift arrival station, find a path that climbs behind the chalet. There is no signpost. Ignore the signs on the other side of the arrival station. Continue west until you reach an intersection at an elevation of 1797 metres.

(2) Continue straight on the path that climbs up to the Cabane du Petit Pâtre (beautiful viewpoint, a good place to stop). You can extend the hike with a round trip to the Col de Niard or the Grand Croise Baulet.

(3) To begin the return journey, descend along the ridge line to a fork.

(4) There are two options:
- Shortcut: take the path on the right towards "Planet", which will take you back to the ski lift arrival station (however, this path is steep and of limited interest).
- Option chosen on the map: continue straight ahead. When you reach a new fork in the path, after the hamlet of Les Bénés, join theGRP® Tour du Mont Blanc.

(5) Turn right onto the path that descends south then south-east and join a new fork.

(6) At this unnamed fork, take the path on the left that descends.

(7) At this unnamed fork, leave theGRP® and take the path on the right that descends. The track takes you past two ski lifts before bringing you back to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Shaded hike in its first and last quarters.
The initial climb is quite steep and then a little narrow (take care with young children), but the descent is generally easier despite a few steep sections.

Worth a visit

Restaurant with panoramic terrace "Le Refuge" in the car park.
Option to extend the hike to Grand Croise Baulet or Col de Niard.

The sensation of overlooking Mont Blanc, with views over a large part of the route.

Hello, Route completed on 8 September 2024. We took our phones with us, so we followed the GPX track rather than the directions in the description. We encountered light rain at the summit, which made the descent slippery. There were sheep and patous near the Cabane (their presence was indicated by a sign well downstream), so we veered to the right across the mountain pasture about 700 m before the Cabane to find the way back and return to the Cabane via this route. The scenery must be magnificent in good weather, but yesterday it was cloudy. So we'll have to do it again.

A very beautiful hike starting from the restaurant "Le Refuge". The climb is a little steep at the beginning. The climb up Le Planet is quite technical with some difficult sections in the undergrowth for those with "short legs" and after the wooded section.
The reward is very beautiful when you arrive at the Cabane du Petit Pâtre. Magnificent landscapes over the Aravis and the Mont Blanc range. I recommend this hike.
The descent is a bit laborious and seems to go on forever...

A really beautiful hike! We had the perfect weather to enjoy it.
A somewhat arduous climb and a difficult, rather unpleasant return journey due to a skiable descent covered in mud.
One downside: shortly before reaching the hut, a shepherd parked his sheep on the path. We had to climb off the path for a short section. Not pleasant at all and no information provided.
Not very nice of the shepherd...
This hike can also be done by Sunday hikers, who should take their time. Walking sticks are essential.
