Park in the car park at La Clairière du Verbamont campsite or below the campsite (three spaces) on the stony path or above it (three spaces).
(S/E) Head down towards the arboretum below the campsite; at the bend, take the stony path on your left which runs alongside the campsite below. At the end of the path, turn right to go down the hill, following the white markings (small plastic arrow). You will reach the Forge Neuve valley with the pond opposite.
(1) Turn left next to the river and continue until you reach the steps on your right.
(2) Take the stairs and cross the bridge over the Ourche. Continue until you reach the tarmac road. Turn left onto it. You will see a field on your left and a forest path on your right leading up towards a coniferous forest.
(3) Take this path, then turn left at the junction of small paths. Further on, turn right at the next junction to continue climbing the hill through the coniferous forest until you reach a trench.
(4) Continue straight on along the Tranchée du Coné de la Chèvre. Ignore a junction, then turn right and stay on the gravel track. Continue to the junction with the Tranchée de l’Étang de la Chesnaye.
(5) Turn left and continue along the path. At the junction, turn right until you reach the tarmac road. Cross it and continue towards the track opposite. Look out for a grassy path leading off to your right.
(6) Take this path, which runs parallel to the D164, and continue to a stony trench (Tranchée du Croc). Turn right and look for a small path on your left.
(7) Leave the trench and take this forest path, which soon comes to an end. Carry on straight ahead, heading down towards La Houdrie, where you’ll find an old quarry and green moss. Cross La Houdrie and head straight up the hill, heading towards a red fence on your left. You’ll reach a track.
(8) Turn right onto this path (the left leads to the red fence, which surrounds private land), and continue to the track. Turn left and join the small path that runs alongside the field.
(9) Turn right to follow it. Pass the old Houdrie farm on your right. Continue straight on through the forest, ignoring the side paths and following the river on your right, with its pretty waterfalls. Carry on until you reach a junction.
(10) Head slightly to the right, cross the stream and continue straight on; you will pass the Oratory of Notre-Dame du Doux Nid on your right. Continue to La Forge Neuve.
(11) Cross the tarmac road, head towards the pond and pass between it and the building. Cross the bridge and head straight up the hill to rejoin the starting path.
(1) Continue straight on to follow the path back in the opposite direction to your starting point (S/E).
