Description of the walk

Start at the car park at Étang du Louroux, in the small village of the same name.

(S/E) Take the path running along the northern end of the pond, alongside the sluice gates.

(1) Follow the path to the left and continue along the pond on your left. The path winds through the woods along the bank (a few information boards).

(2) Cross the bridge, which has been converted into a viewing point. Leave the woods and follow the path between two fields to Beaulieu Farm.

(3) Turn left and follow the tarmac road (with little traffic). Cross the river that feeds the pond and arrive at a junction just after the poplar grove.

(4) Take the road on the left, then the path to the left of the Grand Bray farm. Follow the path along the bank to reach a viewing point.

(5) Continue along the pond and return to the car park where you started (S/E).

We went on this walk when the pond was empty; we found out afterwards that it’s drained every 10 years, and unfortunately for us, it had been drained in January 2024.
We didn’t see any birds, and of course the landscape without water was much less appealing.
The walk is still lovely, though.

A short but very pleasant walk, even though there weren't many birds

We have walked the route around Louroux Pond several times since the route was created; it is well signposted in both directions.
Please note that there are tricky sections in wet weather.
