In the heart of the woods from Tauxigny-Saint-Bauld

Departure: Place du 11 Novembre, Tauxigny-Saint-Bauld

Parking: Champ de Foire car park, exit the village towards Saint-Branchs

Markings: Yellow

(S/E) Follow the D84 towards Saint-Branchs until you reach the crossroads and cross over the Échandon.

(1) Turn left after the car park. After the tower of the Château de Pont Long, turn left and follow the path to a place called Pennevert.

(2) Cross the hamlets of Pennevert, keeping to the right, then Les Hautes Maisons. At the three-way junction in Les Hautes Maisons, turn right, then at the end of the road, turn right again towards La Neuraie. Continue straight ahead and pass this locality.

(3) At the bend in the road, turn left onto a path. At the end of the path, continue right onto the road. Then turn left onto a path through the woods, and at the end, turn left again to reach a stream.

(4) Continue straight ahead between the fields, before turning left to enter the woods. Stay on this path until you reach a crossroads.

(5) Take the path on the right, through the copses, to the Colombier farm, where you will turn left. Continue straight ahead on Route de Belle Vue until you reach the crossroads. Continue straight ahead until the next crossroads at a place called Les Champs de la Motte.

(6) Turn right onto the path in the woods. At the first intersection, continue straight ahead before turning left at the second intersection until you reach a hairpin bend.

(7) Turn left along the woods. Continue to a place called Belle Vue.

(8) Continue along the road, then turn right onto a path just after the bend, along the woods.

(9) At the intersection, continue straight ahead on the road until the end.

(10) Turn left, then immediately turn left onto the path. Continue straight ahead to the next hamlet. Continue on the right onto a small path leading down to L'Échandon and the road.

(11) Cross the road and continue straight ahead to cross the river. Turn left and walk up the streets towards the village of Tauxigny: Rue du Pont Habert, then Rue des Alisiers on the right and Rue de la Liberté on the left until you reach the town hall (S/E).

Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium
To the north of the village of Tauxigny, an astronomical observatory stands in the middle of a meadow. With its two domes, it allows observation of the night sky and houses the Touraine Astronomical Society. Open to the public on certain occasions, it is particularly popular during the Night of the Stars in August. Not far away, in the former Ligoret Mill, a digital planetarium has been set up where, under a spherical dome, you can discover the Solar System and the Universe.

To walk further
Starting from Tauxigny, two other hiking loops await you: the Vallée de l'Échandon to the south (17 km - red markings) and the Chemin des Moulins to the north (7.3 km - blue markings). Two themed trails have also been created by the Touraine Astronomical Society, starting from the Observatory: one dedicated to the Solar System (6 km) and the other to the Universe (2.5 km).
