Description of the walk

Departure from Anjoutey Town Hall, Rue de Frairie, near the church.

The route is marked with a yellow ring.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, turn left towards the cemetery. Just after the cemetery, admire the pretty wire sculptures. Pass by the Étang des Besses pond. Don't miss the beautiful view of the Southern Vosges mountains and enter the forest.

(1) At the fork, turn left following the markings, follow the edge of the forest and cross a meadow.

(2) Take a sharp left turn just before the tarmac road and continue across a large meadow. The path returns to the village via Rue du Cerisier.

(3) Turn right, staying on the pavement as there may be heavy traffic. Cross carefully and turn left into Rue du Moulin. Cross the River La Madeleine.

(4) Immediately afterwards, turn right, pass under the porch of the municipal building and arrive at the site of the former fish farm, which has been redeveloped into the Moulin wetland. Continue for 150 metres.

(5) At the crossroads, walk 400 metres there and back to explore the developments in this area and admire the old water intake structures.

(6) Retrace your steps.

(5) Turn right, cross the stream on the footbridge and continue climbing towards the forest until you reach a crossroads.

(7) Turn right and join a path marked with a red ring. Continue following the contour line until you reach a fork where you leave the red ring markings.

(8) Turn left, following our Yellow Ring markings. Follow the path that winds through the forest. It crosses a stream and leads to a road, Rue de la Charme.

(9) Follow it to the left for about 1 km until you approach the D12.

(10) Without taking it, turn left and cross the Madeleine again on a pretty footbridge, then cross the D12 on the pedestrian crossing and return to the other side on the right. Pass in front of the church and turn left onto Rue Frairie, which will take you back to Anjoutey Town Hall (S/E).

Worth a visit

Moulin area: the site of the former fish farm has been redeveloped into a wetland with pretty wooden footbridges. It also offers superb views of the river.

Anjoutey, Les Anjoutinois.

Place names: Aniutel (1234), Enjutel (1303), Anschatingen and Anschettingen (1394), Enschide (1579).
In 1234, Thierry, Lord of Rougemont, donated a property located in Anjoutey to the Priory of Saint-Nicolas near Rougemont. At that time, the village was under the jurisdiction of the Lieutenant of Rosemont. Around 1332, the Rosemont estate was attached to the County of Ferrette, which remained in the possession of the Habsburgs until the Thirty Years' War.
In 1775, the current church was built, dedicated to Saint Vendelin. Long an agricultural village, Anjoutey saw the establishment of small industries in the 19th century that took advantage of the river's hydraulic power: a tannery mill transformed the oak bark harvested by the inhabitants into a powder used for tanning leather. Around 1855, mechanical weaving and various hand-weaving workshops employed more than two hundred people. In 1932, a serious fire put an end to this activity. In the autumn of 1913, the Belfort-Étueffont railway line, which ran through the village, was inaugurated. It remained in operation for 35 years, until July 1948. Coal was also mined in 1775 and then in 1843.

A beautiful, easy route created by the South Vosges community of municipalities and the municipality of Anjoutey. An interesting circular along the Madeleine river for part of the way, with beautiful views of Fayé and Mont Bonnet and, on a clear day, the Bernese Alps and the Jura.

Sorry I can't provide any information about this route... Due to heart problems, I can no longer manage long walks or walks with steep inclines (maximum 8/9 km).
In any case, well done on your efficient website and clear maps.

Hello,

I would like to know why the page with the elevation profile sketch is no longer there. It was very useful, as it allowed you to know whether
starting the hike with a climb or on flat ground, and that's what helped me choose which hike to do.

Kind regards
