Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the Maison de Santé des Errues, 2 bis Rue du Tramway, 90150 Menoncourt.

(S/E) Head south-east along the path marked with a Blue Disc, which follows Rue du Tramway, continuing further along Rue de la Filature.

(1) Walk through La Madeleine. You can admire the beautiful bridge and the weir that feeds the leat of the mill. Walk 200m to reach the footbridge.

(2) At the covered bridge, turn right onto the D25 towards Menoncourt. Join the GRE5.
As you pass, look out for the mill, which is still in operation. Continue to the Ruisseau des Perches and cross it.

(3) Immediately after crossing it, take the path on the right, ignoring the one that runs alongside the stream.
At the next junction, turn left. Walk through the woods, then continue for 200m across open ground as you emerge.

(4) Turn right (north-east) onto a stony track. In fine weather, enjoy a superb view of the Vosges: the Salbert near Belfort, the Planche des Belles Filles and the whole of the Southern Vosges as far as the Grand Ballon. Then turn left to join the tarmac D25 road.

(5) Follow it to the right and, further on, cross the D83. At the next junction, turn left. Walk alongside a quarry on your left for 400m.

(6) Turn right and climb the path that crosses the Gros Bois heading due north.

(7) The path veers right, heading due east, as it leaves the GRE5, which heads due west. A beautiful view of the Vosges.
Look out for an old bunker on the right (marked ‘Abri’ on the map)
The path descends towards the D12 road to Anjoutey. Be careful not to go all the way to the road.

(8) 50m before the road, turn right and head back up towards the south-west. You’ll cross several small forest tracks; follow the signposting carefully.

(9) At the D12, take it to the right until you reach the Errues roundabout. Cross it on the east side and head back to the starting car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Discover trenches dating from the 1939–1945 war in the Gros Bois.
Note the red sandstone path leading to the Gros Bois, which follows the European E5 trail (Brest–Venice). Indeed, the Belfort Gap separates the Jura Mountains to the south, with their limestone, from the foothills of the Vosges Mountains, with their sandstone.

To the north, you’re treated to a lovely view of the rolling hills of the Vosges.

A lovely route and easy to follow, except towards the end where there was a lot of tall grass – we even wondered if we were actually on the right path! There was also a tree trunk across the path that was a bit tricky to get over. But apart from that, a really lovely route!

A lovely walk, though it could do with a shelter and some benches for lunch.
I spotted seven does in the meadow.
