Park in the car park of the Iraty ski resort at Col de Bagargi.
(S/E) Take the track under a ski resort building that passes to the right of the tennis court and to the left of the snowplough garage (yellow markings). Initially heading west, the track descends into the forest, making several turns. Always take the right-hand path and you will arrive at the junction of a wide path that leads to a water treatment plant on the left.
(1) Take this wide path on the right, which leads flat to the Col d'Iraizabaleta.
(2) Opposite, you can see the path we will take on the way back, which descends from Pic des Escaliers, and on the right, the path that will take us back to the chalets. Ignore both of these and take the stony track on the left. At an altitude of 1226 metres, avoid taking the yellow-marked path on the right, which is shorter but quite steep.
(3) Take the track on the right that winds upwards and leads to Cayolar Murrolatzé.
(4) Look for a path in the grass on the left to reach the south-east ridge between the summit of Arthanolatzé and elevation 1424, then climb straight up following the paths towards the summit.
(5) Arthanolatze (1530 m). Continue north-east-east along a path. Descend to a first pass (1422 m), avoid the next small summit and reach the Lepotxitia pass where theGR®®10passes.
(6) Climb up a path opposite, straight towards the summit of Pic des Escaliers (1472 m).
(7) Retrace your steps a little, then turn left to descend straight down the southern ridge, which leads to a plateau (1,392 m). Continue descending to the Col d'Iraitzabaleta.
(2) Turn left onto the stony track, then keep to the right on the road to reach the Chalets d'Iraty and the starting point (S/E).
