Refuge Aterbea car park (1,138 m) on the right after the D301.
(S/E) From the car park, follow the GR®10. Head south on the D18 for about 800 m. Pass the Pedro chalet on your left.
(1) At the fork, head west on the GR®10.
Turn west onto the GR®10 and head for the Occabé plateau, at around 1,430 m.
(2) Leave the GR®10 by turning left, heading south, and reach the summit of Occabé.
(3) Descend northwards, join the GRT09 and turn right to visit the Occabé plateau and the Occabé Cromlechs Megalithic Site.
(4) Return via the GR®10 trail, heading south for about 200 m, approaching the crest of the plateau. Reach a fork in the trail at an altitude of about 1,385 m and leave the GR®10 trail.
(5) At a hollow, head down eastwards along the path that joins the forest below.
Follow this wide path through the forest until you reach the D301.
(6) Continue right on the D301 for about 500 m until you reach a right-hand bend. Look for a path on the left.
(7) Leave the D301 on the left and follow the path that heads east, then south-east into the valley.
Continue along this path, which passes partly through the forest, and join the D18, then follow it to the right to return to the car park (S/E).
. The hike is varied and the scenery is superb. The weather was sunny and quite warm, but there are several shaded sections and a few nice spots for a picnic. Surprisingly, there weren't many people, even though it was the middle of the week of 15 August. The icing on the cake was the last section along the river, which was very nice and ended at a cheese shop and bar with tables by the river (unfortunately closed that day).
