Departure from the car park at Place de la Fédération.
(S/E) Cross the D117 and turn left for 50 metres. Turn right onto Rue des Augustins until you reach Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. Follow the signs for "Col de Saint-Louis". Cross the Pont de Quillan bridge over the Boulzane river and follow the D9 for 500 metres.
(1) Turn right onto theGR®36and follow the track lined with Chardonnay vines. At the crossroads, go straight ahead and walk for 400 metres
(2) Take the path on the right just after a hedge of tall cypress trees. The climb begins in open country without too much difficulty, but the slope becomes steeper. The path is pleasant, lined with holm oaks and a few junipers. Continue for 10 minutes through the undergrowth. A few low walls remind us that this area was cultivated not so long ago. Suddenly, the path becomes stony and the slope steepens further, with a series of easy hairpin bends. The vegetation changes, with oak trees giving way to boxwood. When you reach the plateau, turn left and continue for about 400 metres to reach the hamlet of Malabrac.
(3) Take the carriageway to the east and rejoin theGR®36200 metres further on. Follow the track and you will see the Pech de Bugarach (1,230 metres) ahead. Continue to the Col del Bedau crossroads.
(4) Continue on theGR®36(which is also theGRP® du Tour du Fenouillède) to the right until you reach the ruins of the Couillade sheepfold.
(5) Turn right and rejoin theGR®36. Continue downhill towards the ruins of Campeau, following the white and red markings ofthe GR®36. Watch out for animals, especially cows, which come to drink at the water reservoir.
(6) Begin the descent on theGR®36and reach the junction with the Ravin de Missaut trail.
(7) Then head into the woods along the Ravin de Missau, leaving the GR®. The first part is on the right bank and the second on the left bank. After Pescarou, you will reach a junction with the Sentier Cathare.
(8) Take it on the right, ignore all the paths on your right and reach the D9.
(9) Take it on the right, towards Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes. Cross the "heath bridge" over the Boulzane, turn left and continue for 300m. Reach the D117. Turn right to the tourist office and the car park (S/E).
