The Adret de Bard and its Roman Road

From Fougerolles, you’ll follow a path lined with small dry-stone walls until you reach the Roman road, where, on a clear day, you’ll be treated to a splendid view of the plain and the Alps. The return journey follows a path along the hillside.

The path is poorly marked in places. Impossible to follow without a GPS. The woodland you pass through is poorly maintained and many of the shrubs are dead. It’s a shame, as it’s a lovely spot.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your feedback,
The distance of 5.18 was measured using GPS; there are marked alternatives on the ground (though not on Visorando) which can extend the distance to up to 8 km. This may explain the difference in distance.

As for the starting point, we opted to start from Fougerolles, as there is slightly more space to park cars there than at the lowest point of the route, and the direction of the route also depends on the other marked trails in the municipality. However, your point is entirely valid.

Do feel free to have a look at the Bard local council website to discover other routes

Enjoy your walks

Hello,
We went on this walk, which was very interesting as it offered a beautiful view of the Forêz plain, the Monts du Lyonnais and, in good weather, the Alps.

We’d like to share these observations with you.

Distance: the distance of this walk is well over 5.18 km. It appears that the actual distance is closer to 8.5 km, which means the walk takes longer: allow between 3½ and 4 hours, depending on the conditions.

We recommend changing your starting point and the direction of the walk. Indeed, it is often better to tackle the most strenuous part first, i.e. to set off from the lowest point. Park at the start of the Chemin du Champ du Plat, below Moulin Palais.

Climb to Contéol Bas via the eastern section, almost as far as La Loge (the 890-metre point). The ascent is easier than on the western side.

Then head back down via the western section, enjoying the view over the plain.

Thank you for this suggestion for a walk!

Kind regards,
