Description of the walk

(S/E) From the ViaRhôna car park (Livron side), take the ViaRhôna south. This path runs alongside the "Petit Rhône" (Canal du Moulin) to the intersection on the edge of the Drôme.
(1) Turn right and follow the Canal du Moulin.

(2) Head right and reach the confluence of the Drôme and Rhône rivers. Turn right towards the river, on the other side of which are the Cévennes mountains of the Ardèche; view to the north of La Voulte and its castle, as well as the mobile dam built to release water from the Rhône into the plain during periods of high water. On the right, access to the reed beds. Return to the intersection. Then continue along the wide stone path along the edge of the Drôme.

(3) Leave the Via Rhôna, which crosses the bridge, on your right, go past the barrier and continue eastwards to the crossroads.

(4) Take the gravel path on the right towards the fish pass. Go through the barrier and arrive at La Passe à Poissons. Return to the crossroads and continue along the wide path heading north.

(5) Follow the Volte road to the left. Pass Maison-Alibert and then Pommier and return to the crossroads you passed on the way out.

(1) Cross the bridge and return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Worth a visit

Economy - Printegarde Island, a place of passage.
The name of this place, "Prends-toi garde" (take care), dates back to a time when the Rhône had not yet been tamed and navigation was very dangerous. The boatmen of the time, who used the towpaths, feared this area. The Rhône was then a convenient means of transporting goods on barges which, in order to go upstream, had to be pulled by numerous heavy draught horses. Untilthe 19th century, river transport on the Rhône provided a livelihood for those living along the river. Inns, barns and stables welcomed sailors and horse crews. Today, the ViaRhôna greenway follows the route of these old paths, allowing visitors to discover the river.

To get to the starting point, you must follow the GPS link. Be careful just before you arrive at the car park, as you need to take the next road because the GPS takes you into the courtyard of the house.
A very pleasant walk, the start along the Petit Rhône charmed us with its peaceful atmosphere.

A short, easy and pleasant hike, ideal for families or people who are not particularly fit.
You can see a few birds along the way.

The start is difficult to find, but after that everything is fine. Suggestions: to avoid returning by road, take the small path on the other side of the little canal, as it is prettier than the road.

A lovely, easy walk with no elevation gain – great for seeing the Rhône and Drôme rivers in flood.
Be careful, it's not easy to find the starting point by car as it's on small, unmarked roads. It's easier to get there by bike.
