Confluence of the Drôme and the Rhône

Starting from the Les Buis district in Livron-sur-Drôme, parking is available in a small, easily visible car park in the hamlet.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, head left (south), then immediately left again. Continue along the tarmac road, crossing the bridge over the motorway.

(1) When you reach the recycling bins, next to the pheasant farm, take the road on the right and turn onto the path slightly to the left. You will arrive facing the Drôme.

(2) Turn right either onto the track or the small path; the two run parallel (I recommend the path, which is more pleasant). Go under the motorway and continue along the path that runs alongside the river.

(3) At the ‘Passe à poissons’ sign, go round the small pond on the right and you’ll reach a picnic area.

(4) Carry on and, a little further on, do not take the main path on the left, but a small footpath a few metres further on to the left. Follow this footpath to a junction with signs for Viarhôna.

(5) Take a short detour to admire the footbridge crossing the Drôme, then return to the confluence of the Drôme and the Rhône.

(6) Follow the embankment running alongside the Rhône to the dam.

(7) At this point, I recommend taking the road behind the dam to see the Petit Rhône.

(8) Retrace your steps.

(7) Cross the small bridge over the Canal du Moulin; do not take the path on the right, but continue along the road. You will see an old sign indicating the flow rate of the Rhône. Continue left along the road at the next junction (underground recycling bin and small central copse).

(9) At the junction, turn right onto Chemin des Théolier and continue straight on to the car park at the hamlet of Les Buis (S/E).
