Description of the walk

Starting point of the hike: Mariahilf hospital bus stop (bus 141 to Harburg-Rathaus station or in the opposite direction to Heimfeld station)

(S/E) We start heading west and turn right onto Moorburger Graben.

(1) We cross the Moorburger Landscheide. We turn left at the next junction. At the fork, we turn left again, follow the water, turn left after the Fürstenmoordamm, cross the Moorburger Landscheide again and then follow the Bostelbekgraben. At the end, we turn right, then left at the next junction.

(2) Follow Moorburger Hinterdeich.

(3) At the Unterburger Absetzteichen, there is a wooden walkway that leads out onto the water.

(4) We follow the Hinterdeich to Waltershofer Straße. Here, the diversion for the Grüner Ring turns right due to the construction of the A26 motorway. However, we first follow the original path, as this is the most beautiful part of this stage for us. We can observe many grey herons and deer on the wet meadows. We follow the path around a right-hand bend.

(5) At the next bend, the path leads away from the Moorburger Landscheide. We turn around and walk back to Waltershofer Straße (4), where we turn left.

(6) At the Moorburger Elbdeich, we turn left.

(7) We pass the Hohenwischer Schleusenfleet. We follow the path around a right-hand bend and walk along Hohenwischer Straße through Francop.

(8) Pass the Gutsbrack, turn right at the next street, then right again.

(9) We cross the Alte Süderelbe. We take the second left, then the third left.

(10) From Osterfelddeich, you have a view of the many fruit trees. In the distance, the colourful cranes of the Port of Hamburg rise up. We turn right at the second road, straight ahead over Köterdamm.

(11) At Finkenwerder Landscheide, we turn left, then take the second right onto Uhlenhoffweg. At the end, we turn left, then take the second right. At the end, we turn left again and then right onto Norderschulweg. At the fork in the road, we keep right, take the next right, then left.

(12) Pass the public toilets. Take the third right, then the second left.

(13) You will reach the Finkenwerder ferry terminal. Turn left, take the second right, then the third right and the second left.

(14) You will reach Gorch-Fock-Park. The official route continues straight ahead past the swimming pool. However, we turn right and take a detour through the park with a view of the Elbe.

(15) From the northern tip of the park, there is a beautiful view across the Elbe to Teufelsbrück.

(16) We leave the park and follow the Finkenwerder Hauptdeich south. We turn right at the next junction, then left and right again. We continue north along the Steendiekkanal to the Rüschpark ferry terminal (E).

Notes

  • The Green Ring runs for about 100 kilometres, divided into 8 stages, around the city centre of Hamburg. The hiking trail is mostly well signposted with white lettering on a green background. We follow the Green Ring with a few deviations.
  • At the time of the hike, there was an official diversion on this section of the Green Ring due to the construction of the A26 motorway (between (4) and (7), which is taken into account here.
