Park in the car park in the village of Cognin-les-Gorges.
(S/E) At the far end of the car park, take the few small steps. Immediately turn left into the street that leads to a crossroads at a chapel.
(1) Continue straight ahead on the path, which quickly turns into a track at the Pont de Montchardon bridge. Continue along the right bank of the Nan river. You will come to a flight of steps.
(2) Take these large steps on the left and follow the path parallel to the D22 road. Join it.
(3) Turn right and follow it to the wooden bus stop near a mill and a crossroads.
(4) Take the road on the left until you reach the first hairpin bend. Leave the road and take the path. Walk along the road and join it again, follow it for a few metres and, at the hairpin bend, leave it and continue along the path opposite. You will reach a building in a field.
(5) Stay on this path, turning left. Note: you may have to go under a fence; a sign indicates the path. Once you have passed through, look carefully to take the right path. Take a fairly wide bend and cross a small stream. Follow the fairly wide path that climbs to a junction with a tarmac road.
Please note: there is a fairly narrow passage after a large property, which you will need to go around on the right.
Turn left onto the tarmac road until you reach a crossroads with several paths known as Place des Chasseurs.
(6) Take the right-hand path of the three where there is a barrier with a sign prohibiting motorised vehicles. Begin the descent here and, at the second hairpin bend, you will arrive at the crossroads of the path leading to the Lia farm.
(7) Take the path on the left, which is not very visible, and follow it to reach a wider track after a fairly steep descent. Walk past a cave near the Rocher de Malème. Continue downhill through the forest to reach the Chapeau de Napoléon crossroads.
(8) Be careful here: take a small, barely visible path down to the left and cross the D22 road three times. Then continue downhill to reach the initial crossroads you passed on the way up.
(1) Turn right and follow the same route as on the way out to return to the car park in the village of Cognin-les-Gorges (S/E).
