Quincivet Castle Circular

The first part of the walk is very shady. It alternates between passages through the undergrowth, walnut groves and countryside. You will pass by the pretty Château de Quincivet and enjoy some beautiful views of the Vercors, the Chartreuse and the Saint-Marcellin plain. There are no difficulties to be feared, except for the length and muddy conditions in rainy weather.

Description of the walk

Park in the square in front of the church in the small village of Têche, located in Isère, between Saint-Marcellin and Vinay.

(S/E) With your back to the church, leave the square of the same name by taking Rue du Bourg on the right. Take the first street on the left (sign: Ferme des Signaux).

(1) You will see an imposing crucifix on your left. Follow this Way of the Cross until you reach a stop sign. Turn right.

(2) At the corner of Chemin du Vézy, you will see a sign for "Les Signaux". Continue along this small road and, almost immediately after the bend, take a discreet path that leads into the walnut grove on the right. Ignore the start of a path on the right. Then take the path that climbs into the forest, opposite a large white cubic stone. You will see yellow/red markings. Follow this path and the yellow/red markings until you reach a sign for "Les Rollands".

(3) Turn left towards "Champ Moyet" and you will quickly leave the woods. When you reach a small road, turn left.

(4) Then take the second path on your right (yellow/red markings).

(5) You will come to a T-junction and take the path on the right which starts to descend; it is very steep. After a small bridge, you will come out onto a small road. Turn left to reach the "Stop" sign on the D518 (sign: Champ Moyet).

(6) Cross the road and take Impasse du Doz opposite. Just before a building, take a path on the right that runs alongside conifer trees. At a fork, take the left path (still following the yellow/red markings). When you reach a small road, turn left.

(7) Take the first road on the right to reach the beautiful Château de Quincivet (private). Take the path that starts to the right of the castle entrance, along a hedge. This path branches off to the right to follow the edge of a wood. Follow it along the wood until you reach the end.

(8) Once you have left the edge of the woods, you will see a sign for Brochenu. Leave theGRP® and climb up to the left, towards "Têche-9km". You will now see yellow markings, which are less clear. You will arrive at a meadow. Go through a gate (make sure you close it behind you). Your path climbs up through the field and then, when you reach a fence, seems to disappear... Walk along the fence on the left (as if you were retracing your steps a little). You will see the path again. It leads you to a second gate to go back up into the woods.

(9) You will come out onto a small road. There is a sign for "Les Chais" on the left. Turn left (towards "Têche-8.2km"). When your small road turns left, take the path that goes to the right (yellow markings). You will come out onto a meadow. Please note: the path to take on the left, in the middle of the meadow, is only visible when you turn around. It starts at a hunting platform. At two successive forks, take the right-hand branch (yellow markings).

(10) You will come to a third gate at the entrance to a meadow. And to leave the meadow, you will find a fourth gate (lucky you!). You will arrive at the hamlet of Les Amours. Do not linger here. Turn right to come out onto a small road, which you will take on the left.

(11) At the first intersection, turn left again. Then at the second intersection, go straight ahead (Chemin des Forges). At a fork, turn right and quickly descend a narrow path on the right (the yellow markings are still visible, although in some places you have to look for them). You will return to the D518 at a place called "Les Forges".

(12) Cross over to take the ford, heading towards "Têche - 5.5km". Go straight ahead at the first crossroads (towards "Combe Moussy"), then at the second (Chemin de la Combe du Maine).
You will come to a post with a "194" sign.

(13) Take the path on the right. Descend into the Combe. Follow the path marked in yellow. Climb back up to reach a field. Turn left. At the end of the path, go around a group of buildings on the right. When you reach a small road, turn left, then immediately right (Chemin de Frise).

(14) Your path leads to the entrance of a property, but just before that, there is a way around on the left. Take this to get around the obstacle and you will arrive at the "Frise" sign.

(15) Turn left (towards Têche). You will see the yellow/red markings again. Follow the path through the undergrowth. After a fairly long walk, you will come to a small road.
Go down it to the right. At first, it is steep. It will take you back to the path you started on.

(2) Follow the small asphalt road. Continue straight ahead. At the end of the straight road, at the roundabout, turn left to return to your starting point, passing near a water source next to a wash house (S/E).

Quite a lot of tarmac, but fortunately very little traffic.
We stopped for a snack break at point 10, which offered a beautiful view.

We started at point 2 at the bottom of the hill to avoid the small paved road, where there is space for cars. It's a beautiful, easy walk with lovely views, but be careful as there is a lot of tree cutting and some sections have no signs on the trees. Follow the route carefully and ignore the rest. We didn't see anyone else on this walk. 14 km instead of 16

A beautiful hike to do in very dry weather. Some paths have been damaged by forestry workers, and even after a week without rain there are still puddles of water.
Be careful at WP 4; we were chatting and missed the path branching off to our right.
There are no water sources on the route, and in Têche, at the public toilets, the water is supposedly undrinkable (sign). This is probably because of the nearby bar
Thank you, Yannick, for the guidebook.

In summer and autumn, it's a beautiful, easy hike, but in December, it's a real nightmare with too much mud and water and the path cut off by countless puddles, forcing us to abandon the main path and cut through the woods with the fodder cuts and mud that was difficult to get through. (All morning in the fog.) We finished this hike covered in mud.

Fine, except in very hot weather, as about a third of the walk is on roads without trees.

Beautiful hike in superb weather, many walnut trees lost after the storm in June 2019. Thank you, Yannick, for another wonderful hike.

Thank you for introducing us to this lovely walk, which we only did in part (we cut across at 5 to join 16), but which really shows off this beautiful area!
See you soon!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Indeed, there is no marked path in the meadow.
.
For those coming after you: the second gate is located just above the first one. You can either climb directly up the slope to the left or, as I described, take a detour to make the climb less steep.

Enjoy your walks.

We particularly enjoyed this beautiful hike, which we highly recommend for the beauty of the scenery. The description is very accurate. One small downside is that once you've passed through the first gate (at point no. 8), it's difficult to find the second gate... above it, foresters have cut down trees and it's hard to find your way. Thank you for this beautiful hike.
