Description of the walk

(S/E) Set off from the Peclet-Polset refuge towards Lac Blanc. Go round it to the right and take the path that climbs steeply towards the Col du Soufre. At point 2675, you’ll reach a junction.
Please note that the junction is not very visible.

(1) Ignore the Col du Soufre path heading off to the right and take the path on the left which climbs steeply through a scree slope. Cross the glacial meltwater stream and its few waterfalls.
Continue until you reach the first lake, point 2758.

(2) Pass this first lake and then leave it via the path on the right, which you will follow again on the descent. Descend towards the lakes, pass between the two, and cross the stream. Go round the second lake to the west and climb towards the base of the glacier.
Be careful, the ground remains slippery and muddy. Pass beneath the glacier’s terminal tongue and climb back up onto the ridge through the scree on the left.
The proximity of the glacier is impressive and offers a chance to hike in the wilderness. Continue to the summit of the ridge, the southernmost point of this route.

(3) The view is fabulous at an altitude of nearly 2,900m above Lac Blanc and the Gebroulaz Glacier. Descend the narrow ridge, heading north. Be careful, this section is overhanging.
You will come to the lakes on your left and the junction you passed on the way up.

(2) Follow the path taken on the way up and head back down to the refuge (S/E).
