Description of the walk

On leaving the lodge (S), take the path on the left which climbs past the Girolata cemetery. Continue to the crossroads at elevation 165.

(1) Pass the MEM (Mare e Monti) on your left and take the alternative route opposite (also marked in orange).
Head down towards Cala di Tuara beach, follow it along before tackling the climb up to Bocca a Croche.

(2) Cross the D81 road and take the path opposite, which is the MEM alternative route; pass close to the mobile phone mast and climb through the scrub until you join the MEM below Capo di Curzu.

(3) Take advantage of the tall trees to enjoy the views of the surrounding area.
At the crossroads, head due south and through the chestnut grove to reach Curzu.
Cross the village to reach the road to Porto, head up to the right; the lodge (E) is at the entrance to the village.

Worth a visit

Lots and lots of tourists encountered between Bocca a Croce and Girolata. It’s a veritable procession here (it takes a maximum of 3 hours for the round trip), allowing holidaymakers to spend a pleasant day in the gem that is Girolata.
The walk through the woods takes you past chestnut trees as well as the pine tree endemic to Corsica, the laricio, which will be discussed in more detail in a future post.

Be sure to head south when you leave the beach at Girolata. If you turn right, you’ll end up on the old, abandoned path that leads inland. The path is still shown on many maps but isn’t well marked, and it’s easy to get lost.
The lodge in Curzu was unwelcoming and uncomfortable – what a shame!
