Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the entrance to Galéria, near the beach.

(S/E) Head down to the beach towards the harbour.

(1) Just past the harbour, take the path that climbs up to the left through the low scrub, then higher up. You’ll reach a sort of pass.

(2) Take the path branching off to the left to climb up to Punta Muvrareccia. This path is not marked on the IGN map but is clearly visible on OpenStreetmap Rando, and regular cairns help guide you along the ridge.

(3) Continue straight on along the ridge. Reach Crocce di Porcu Liccatu.

(4) Here, join the path that climbs directly from Galéria. Continue straight on. Here, the path descends to the Focolara junction.

(5) Continue along the path which climbs gently up to Bocca di Fuata, with superb views of Girolata. Join the Tra Mare e Monti path.

(6) Turn left and continue along the ridges, enjoying the superb scenery. Reach the junction at Punta di a Literniccia.

(7) Turn left to begin the long descent towards Galéria. Reach the small dam on the Tavulaghiu.

(8) Leave the Tra Mare e Monti trail and follow the path that heads straight ahead. Impressive walls that were used to channel water to the village. Reach the entrance to Galeria.

(9) At the village’s main street, turn left into the village and head for the car park (S/E).

Notes

A challenging hike due to its length and significant elevation gain.

It is therefore best done in autumn or spring.

I recommend at least 3 litres of water per person for this hike. If done in spring, the heat is bearable as the start of the hike is sheltered, then in the shade, but it quickly gets hot in the sun.

Worth a visit

(5) It is possible to descend to Focolara beach, but be aware of the distance and the additional elevation gain.
Girolata can be the starting point for other hikes.
The Calanques of Piana.
The Fango Valley and its beautiful river.

A beautiful hike with many viewpoints and passages along the ridges, particularly over the Gulf of Girolata. However, do not rely on the distances indicated (I recorded 20 km for 1,300 metres of elevation gain).

Please make sure you bring plenty of water; with the wind and the heat, the scrubland can quickly become a furnace.
There are no water points along the route

Your hikes (in Corsica) are generally very detailed and the information is extremely useful... As for the new Focolara hike, I’d just say it’s best to do it on a sunny day to make the most of the views of the mountain range and the colours!!! Well done again and thank you for all your hard work...
