Description of the walk

(S) From the lodge, return to the road and follow it left for 500m, then take the path on the left at the junction.
Enter the woods; the path runs alongside a low wall. You will reach the dam on the Tavulaghiu.

(1) Continue south along this valley, following the streams of Tavulaghiu and Luccio, until you reach Punta di a Literniccia, where several paths cross.

(2). Continue due west, passing the boundary stone (geodetic point at an altitude of 784 metres). Begin a steep descent leading to the ruins of Bocca di Fuata.

(3) Leave the path on the right heading towards Focolora Bay and Galeria, and take the correct path on the left heading due south, which joins the Cavone Ravine.

(4) Follow the ravine along two hairpin bends and emerge at the village of Girolata.
Cross the village and reach the beachside lodge (E).

Worth a visit

A splendid stage with the sea visible on both sides; on the ascent, unfortunately, it’s behind you, but on the descent, what a beautiful view of the Mediterranean.
However, the descent under the beautiful June sun requires a good supply of water at the start, as even under the trees it gets very hot.
At the highest point on the ridge, there is a magnificent view of the high Corsican mountains, particularly Paglia Orba.

An interesting walk. Beautiful views, though the final descent drags on a bit. Girolata itself is quite a sight! A mix of a 1960s hippy commune, a busy day-trip destination, cows roaming freely on the beach and visiting luxury sailing yachts.

A lovely walk, but best done early in the morning or in the evening as it gets very hot.

Hello. Is it easy to catch a boat back to Girolata? We’re planning to do the hike in June 2018, but I wouldn’t want to be stuck in Girolata for a night. Thank you.

A lovely 4-hour hike for us, with stunning views. You do need to be fit for the climb, and you have to be careful on the descent and along the ridge. A charming village at the end of the walk, and cows on the beach...
We then took a short detour to a small beach just past the village for a picnic and some snorkelling.
You can buy some Corsican produce, bread, fruit and drinks at a beachside shop for your picnic.
Return by boat via the Scandola Nature Reserve. A perfect day!!!
Thanks to the route planner

A superb hike with a steady climb; physically demanding but not too difficult (you do need to be in good shape, though). The views when you reach the summit are magical, and the scent of everlasting flowers is enchanting. The descent is a bit trickier at first but levels off easily towards Girolata. The trail is well marked, so it’s hard to get lost. The finish is pleasant as it’s on the opposite side of the postman’s path: far fewer people and the first restaurants are a bit less touristy. Thanks to the trailblazer!
