Punta Castellacciu and Monte Seninu

A short, enjoyable hike above Girolata with superb views.
The hike is technical and the climbs are steep, so you need to have strong legs!

Description of the walk

At Bocca di Croce, take the track that starts at the pass between the car park and the refreshment bar and descends towards the pier for the Girolata shuttle.

(S/E) Park at the edge of the track. The path starts on the right-hand side. It is not marked or fully visible on IGN, but it is very well marked with cairns and visible on OpenStreetMap.

(1) From there, the trail begins to climb steeply. However, it remains pleasant as it is not slippery.

(2) To reach the summit of Punta Castellacciu (583m), take a short detour involving a bit of climbing, then descend via the same route to continue along the trail.

(3) Some tricky sections require a bit of climbing or are sometimes very steep.

(4) At the summit, there is a splendid view of Girolata and Scandola on one side and Porto and the calanques of Piana on the other.
Descend via the same route towards (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 273 m - Start at the edge of the track
  2. 1 : km 0.56 - alt. 325 m - Start of the steep climb
  3. 2 : km 1.02 - alt. 543 m - Punta Castellacciu
  4. 3 : km 1.7 - alt. 554 m - A few tricky sections
  5. 4 : km 1.95 - alt. 612 m - Monte Seninu
  6. S/E : km 3.91 - alt. 273 m - Arrival at the edge of the track

Notes

Unmarked trail but very well cairned
Some tricky sections requiring a bit of climbing.
Take your time looking for cairns to avoid getting lost.

Despite its short distance, I classify it as difficult because some parts are very steep. It took me 3 hours and 24 minutes (including breaks) to complete it.

Worth a visit

Girolata
Porto
Calanques de Piana
Gorges de la Spelunca (not in summer, too crowded).

A very beautiful, fairly difficult hike, I've done it several times before and it's in my TOP 5. The panorama at the top is simply superb.
The information sheet is well written considering the profile of the terrain, and it's worth noting that the route has recently been marked out in yellow, which is a plus.
A hike for well-trained and calm people, as some sections can be impressive the first time.
Done on 18/05/2025.

The estimated time of 2 hours and 25 minutes for the round trip seems very difficult to achieve; it took us about 5 hours.
Indeed, sometimes it is not very easy to find the cairns.

A very pleasant hike for experienced hikers, requiring the use of hands in certain places. The view is extraordinary. For signposting, rely on cairns. There are sheep on the route, so plan accordingly.

Variation from Gradelle beach
Start at the bend opposite the car park: be careful, however, as the recent yellow markings lead to the foot of the Senino climb: at Osani, follow the paths to reach the nominal path from Bocca a crocce
Bring 3 litres of water per person (thanks to Jean Jacques who helped us out with a bottle of Saint Georges on the way down via Osani).
The final section is technical and difficult to cycle, so only attempt it if you know what you are doing.

This hike is magnificent and challenging, leading to the summit of Mount Senino. Not to be taken lightly. A 7 km technical round trip hike taking 3 hours and 40 minutes, with muddy terrain in places that can be slippery. Very steep (ascent and descent), with two chimneys to climb where the narrow passage leaves no room for error. Not recommended for families with children who are not used to hiking and experienced in the mountains. Shoes with non-slip soles are necessary. The path is clearly visible thanks to the cairns, which must not be lost sight of (no markings). Proceed with caution, but the 360-degree view is the ultimate reward, overlooking the mountains and gulfs. Corsica is exceptional!

A very beautiful hike.
However, the time indicated is not correct at all.
From Punta Castellaciu, it takes an hour to reach Monte Senino (with some climbing required in places).
In total, it takes 4 to 4½ hours to get to Senino and back.
