Description of the walk

Departure from the car park at Saint-Lary church.

(S/E) Go around the church and take the path that climbs up to the upper village. A quick visit to the castle is a must.
Then turn right onto Route de Castillon until you reach theGRP® trail junction.

(1) Turn right (red and yellow markings). Stay on this stone path until you reach La Julian (beekeeper). Take the dirt track that runs alongside the house and continues on to the Haubéou farm, going around it. You will arrive on Route de Larrama.

(2) Turn right, leaving theGRP®. Continue along Route de Larrama until you reach a path that branches off to the right.

(3) Turn right and stay on this forest track until the end (elevation 225), then turn right and then left. Stay on this path until you reach the junction with the D 930 road.

(4) Go straight ahead. Take care when crossing this fairly busy road. Pass by the houses in the hamlet of Les Gougines. Cross the river, the Loustère. At the T-junction, turn right and continue to the next crossroads before the Le Mousson farm.

(5) Turn left, continue along this dirt track uphill and go around the Gisquet estate.
The road turns into a stone path and veers to the right. Stay on this road and pass the private road on the right that leads to Le Bousquet. Continue to the next crossroads.

(6) Turn right onto Chemin Cousteau. Stay on this downhill path. Pass in front of Auberge Cousteau and continue downhill. Cross La Loustère stream again and reach the crossroads. Turn left and continue to the junction with the D 930 road. Turn left and carefully follow the D 930 for a few metres.

(7) Cross the road, take the path opposite and continue along this path to the church of Saint-Lary (S/E).

A varied hike through rolling, partly wooded countryside with beautiful old houses dotted along mostly gravel or tarmac paths, and the pretty village of Saint-Lary, particularly its hilltop castle. Very little traffic except when crossing the RD road.
Tip: start from the castle car park rather than the church to avoid starting with a fairly steep climb. This hike is perfect for early spring or late autumn.

Great route, along paths and through a magnificent forest
Beautiful buildings along the route and very pleasant views of the valleys
Few cars and no noise except birdsong
Note: at point 4 Gougines, the staircase is to the left of the houses. Follow the field to the right, along the embankment on the road side, then down towards the stream. Next, follow the trail and go up to the left, through tall grass

Pleasant hike, very varied paths, no technical difficulty. Easy to follow. At Haubéou, you can enter the woods without taking the Larrama road. Look for the yellow marker 2 metres high, which may be hidden by grass and branches. The description can be found at (2). Crossing the woods is easy.
At Les Gougines, the descent to La Loustère stream is 100 m to the right of the lodge, with steps carved into the sides. Look for a ramp that is not very visible from a distance with a yellow marker, then go directly into the field. Cross the river on a poor bridge. The rest of the walk is without difficulty.

Before reaching the Larrama road, take the path (marked) on the right, which joins the wide path coming from the Larrama road.
Otherwise, it is a very beautiful route through the woods and along the ridges with views of the Pyrenees.

Please note that the proposed route takes a private road at point 4 (dog training). We have met with the owners, who do not want their road to be used.
There are two solutions:
- follow the D930 until you reach the PR (yellow markings) to the left of Les Gougines
- from point 3, follow the yellow-marked PR path and descend to Les Gougines:
