From Villé, take the D424 towards Ranrupt. The hike starts at the village church.
(S/E) Opposite Ranrupt church, turn left onto Rue de l'École and follow the Anneau Vert signs. Keep right at the first crossroads. Then stay on the street until the next crossroads.
(1) Turn left onto Chemin de la Croix. Further on, at the crossroads where there is a bench, admire the view of Climont. Pass to the right of the bench and take the path that goes uphill. Continue straight ahead on the track at the end of the climb and head towards the hamlet of Fonrupt.
(2) Cross the hamlet, continuing straight ahead. At the end of the hamlet, continue at the intersection on the right. Stay on the path going uphill until you reach the star-shaped intersection at a place called La Brimbellière.
(3) Continue straight ahead. Ignore each intersection until you leave the forest. Pass the first path on the right leading to the buildings of Bas Lachamp to reach a second crossroads.
(4) Turn right. Ignore a path on the left, then keep right at the next intersection to reach Château de la Roche.
(5) A metal staircase provides access to the château and its viewpoint. Continue along the path (marked with yellow signs). It becomes more winding and narrow, with occasional panoramic views. After a hill, keep to the right-hand path. Continue to the crossroads with the road to the Promont farmhouse inn.
(6) Continue along this tarmac road, then immediately take the forest path downhill to the right, following the red ring markings towards the Haut Bois farmhouse inn. This path descends until it meets a tarmac road which leads, to the left, to the Hauts Bois farmhouse inn (closed).
(7) Pass the farmhouse inn and continue following the red ring markings, first on the tarmac road and then on the forest track. Turn right at the bend. This track leads to the village of Ranrupt. Continue along the road that extends from the track to the next crossroads and turn left until you reach the intersection you passed on the way out.
(1) Turn left to return to Ranrupt church (S/E).
