Description of the walk

From Villé, take the D424 towards Ranrupt. The hike starts at the village church.

(S/E) Opposite Ranrupt church, turn left onto Rue de l'École and follow the Anneau Vert signs. Keep right at the first crossroads. Then stay on the street until the next crossroads.

(1) Turn left onto Chemin de la Croix. Further on, at the crossroads where there is a bench, admire the view of Climont. Pass to the right of the bench and take the path that goes uphill. Continue straight ahead on the track at the end of the climb and head towards the hamlet of Fonrupt.

(2) Cross the hamlet, continuing straight ahead. At the end of the hamlet, continue at the intersection on the right. Stay on the path going uphill until you reach the star-shaped intersection at a place called La Brimbellière.

(3) Continue straight ahead. Ignore each intersection until you leave the forest. Pass the first path on the right leading to the buildings of Bas Lachamp to reach a second crossroads.

(4) Turn right. Ignore a path on the left, then keep right at the next intersection to reach Château de la Roche.

(5) A metal staircase provides access to the château and its viewpoint. Continue along the path (marked with yellow signs). It becomes more winding and narrow, with occasional panoramic views. After a hill, keep to the right-hand path. Continue to the crossroads with the road to the Promont farmhouse inn.

(6) Continue along this tarmac road, then immediately take the forest path downhill to the right, following the red ring markings towards the Haut Bois farmhouse inn. This path descends until it meets a tarmac road which leads, to the left, to the Hauts Bois farmhouse inn (closed).

(7) Pass the farmhouse inn and continue following the red ring markings, first on the tarmac road and then on the forest track. Turn right at the bend. This track leads to the village of Ranrupt. Continue along the road that extends from the track to the next crossroads and turn left until you reach the intersection you passed on the way out.

(1) Turn left to return to Ranrupt church (S/E).

A beautiful circular route completed on Wednesday 9 April 2025 by Les Branquignol(e)s, the famous group of epicurean hiking friends from Alsace, who unanimously praised the beauty of the landscapes they passed through and the trails and paths they used. We reversed the direction of the circular route, starting from the Château de la Roche, descending to the centre of the village of Bellefosse for a pleasant lunch at the Auberge du Ban de la Roche. Warm welcome and service, good food.

My gaze is always available, infinitely, to the beauties of nature...
Good morning, everyone!
What more can I say!
Last Sunday, with the amount of snow that had fallen two days earlier, we had planned a ski or snowshoe hike. But with temperatures jumping +15° in just 24 hours, the plan quickly fell through...
So we returned to Ranrupt to explore other paths and trails that had been on our minds for several weeks already.
And we were spoiled from start to finish, even though, once again, with the end of autumn and the arrival of winter, the short days forced us to time our outing more carefully so as not to be caught out by the shortening daylight hours. We ended up in the last glowing rays of a truly magical sunset.
The atmosphere along the route was superb, the physical sensations excellent, and we were all (because my blind friend Gérard Muller and his partner Nadia were with us) happy to have been in the right place at the right time, as they say...
Take care!

A beautiful, pleasant route. The Haut-Bois farmhouse inn has been closed since the Covid period. Lovely animal encounters: llamas at the start of the Brimbelière path, reindeer at Bas Lachamp, marmots after the Hauts Bois farmhouse, then pedigree cows (Salers, Highland, Charolais, Limousin, but few Vosges). Great mushroom picking. Be careful after La Roche castle on the yellow signpost: turn left, then right uphill. The PROMONT farmhouse inn is a little off to the right of the path at point 6. See the church of Ranrupt and grab a drink and/or pastry at Les Arts de la Table on the left, parking in front of the Climont inn, which is closed and undergoing renovation. Points of interest on the right: open library chalet and bread vending machine, as in neighbouring villages.

A very beautiful hike in the Bruche valley. Through forests and meadows, this hike passes through the beautiful hamlet of Fonrupt. The highest point is the Château de la Roche, with its magnificent view of the Donon and the Champ du Feu.
