Description of the walk

Large car park at La Julienne.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the ponds and walk past the brasserie. Leave the main path immediately after the brasserie (do not cross the stream) and walk alongside two ponds; cross the stream towards the next pond and walk alongside this one and the next until you reach a stone bridge.

(1) At the bridge, turn right and follow the path, ignoring the one that climbs to the right at the Fork in the road, until you come out onto a meadow. Head across this meadow, skirting the woods (on your left). Cross the ford (NB: you can also take the small covered wooden bridge further to the right) and continue into the next meadow, still following the edge of the woods. When the meadow narrows (small covered wooden bridge), head diagonally left and go through the wooden gate

(2) Head into the woods to reach a wider footpath. Turn right and follow this path to the end (as you approach the houses, it becomes tarmac).

(3) At the junction, head up the gravel path opposite and, once at the top, continue to the right along the small tarmac road, running parallel to the valley.

(4) At the end of this road, turn onto the path (GR®) on the right, which continues in the same direction. This path narrows and then continues as a street (ignore the path on the right which theGR® follows), leading to a larger road which you follow for about a hundred metres to the left.

(5) At the bend, leave it to take a path on the right which joins a small track on the right in the bend (at No. 64). At the end of this path, take the gravel track on the right and continue to the shaded crossroads (ignore the path on the right).

(6) Turn left onto the road that leads straight to Fort de Barchon.

(7) As you leave the fort, turn immediately right onto the path that follows the boundary of the fort site (fence with concrete posts). This path curves widely to the right then branches left between two fields (view of the Blegny coal mine tower).
Continue along the gravel path to the right, cross the road (N604) and take the concrete path opposite which leads down towards a wood.

(8) At the bottom of the woods, turn left after the bridge and follow the path that runs alongside the stream for 1 km. This path eventually veers away from the stream to join a pasture further up on the right. Walk along the fence, pass through the gate and cross the pasture diagonally, heading for the clump of trees opposite (gate also visible).

(9) Go through the small iron gate and head down the farm track.
At the bottom of the track, which is blocked by a barrier, go through the side gate to reach the tarmac road, which you follow down to the left. This road winds its way down and then back up. At the crossroads (bench under a tree), turn right into Rue de Leval and follow it all the way to the bottom.

(10) At the bottom of Rue de Leval, cross the small bridge on the left, then the turnstile, and follow the stream through several pastures; you cross from one pasture to the next via a swing gate, usually located upstream. Head for the top of the last pasture to reach the end of a street, again passing through a swing gate.

(11) After about fifty metres, head down to the left onto the path hidden by a clump of trees, which leads to a pasture (gate), which you cross straight on towards the stream. Cross the stream (concrete footbridge and turnstile) and head into the meadow, heading for the large concrete post. From there, take the portico and cross the following meadows diagonally to reach a road (Rue du Soldat Diet).
Follow this street to the right, then turn right into Rue Bouhouille. Cross the road (N604) and take a street that leads into a farm track. Follow it to the edge of the woods.

(12) Enter the woods via the sunken track but immediately take the path that branches off diagonally to the right and curves to the right as it descends.
This path then winds along the upper edge of the valley, never straying more than a few dozen metres from the edge of the woods. Follow it for just over 1.5 km (never leave the woods) until you reach a gazebo (at a bend to the right) and then a chapel (Chapelle de Wixhou).

(13) Continue along the same path, which has now widened (ignore the two paths leading down to the left).
Shortly afterwards, the path runs alongside a meadow on the right and offers an unobstructed view of the Meuse valley and the Albert Canal.

(14) Enter the woods again, follow a circular path to the left and come to a concrete bridge, which you cross.
Go straight on after the bridge, then turn left to continue a short distance from the edge of the woods. Turn left again at a crossroads. The path descends briefly into a small valley and climbs back up to reach a small plateau: take the path that veers slightly to the right and joins the tarmac road downstream of the bridge.
Walk down this road to the bottom and turn left, after the cross, onto the path that runs alongside the road.
Continue until you come within sight of a bridge.

(15) At the fork in the road, turn left about thirty metres before this bridge.
Before this path begins a steep climb, take the small path on the right which joins the stream and follows it as it winds its way, rejoining the footpath just before a bridge (opposite the playground).
Cross this bridge and walk along the pond on the right to reach the car park (S/E).

A walk through fields and beautiful wooded areas, with a short detour to Fort Barchon.
Got a little lost towards the end due to distraction.

The ponds are very beautiful and pleasant.
The grassy sections (shortly after the start) are unpredictable, but the landmark to look out for is the edge of the woods.
The section through Barchon is not very interesting.
Overall, a very varied and easy-to-follow route.

Hello
It was very difficult to connect points 1 and 2 due to several fallen trees and flooding on the Julienne.
I turned back and reached point 2 via the GR.
A beautiful hike... very muddy, best done in dry weather.

Hello
I didn't do this walk once I got there.
I didn't understand the starting point, but we didn't have much time and my family was a bit nervous because I didn't understand how to start. It's my fault
I apologise.

Best regards

A very beautiful hike through woods and fields. The GPX track isn't entirely accurate (off by a few dozen metres, but that could be my GPS too). At the beginning, you have to go by feel and common sense, and you'll end up back on the right path. Beautiful view from the Barchon fort. The path is easy, with a few slight inclines but no steep hills. The end is a bit tough on the legs because it's downhill, but otherwise a very nice walk.
