Between fields and forests from the Bois des Chênes Froids

A short route to explore outside the village centre with beautiful passages through the undergrowth and lovely panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The village of Coussay-les-Bois is notable for its bell tower, which you can see after your walk.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the car park specially designed for this hike, cross the road and take the path under the canopy of trees of various species.

(1) Turn right at the next intersection in the woods. Descend into more open terrain, then turn left at the three-way junction to find the beautiful viewpoint overlooking the village of Coussay-les-Bois and the small hamlet of Les Tardes.

(2) From the viewpoint, continue along a grassy path, then turn left onto a small road towards the hamlet, enjoying a pleasant 360° panorama.

(3) At the hamlet of Les Tardes, leave the small road and pass between the buildings (bread oven on the right). Descend through the fields and stay on this straight path, ignoring the crossroads, until you reach the road (D725).

(4) Cross it carefully and climb gently towards the houses in the distance with an unobstructed view. At the gate leading to the Château de la Vervolière, turn left towards the houses of Le Puy.

(5) Pass in front of the hamlet and take a grassy path under the tall trees. On the flat, turn right, leaving the path on the left surrounded by old oak trees (private). Follow the lane lined partly with young trees. Arrive on the open plateau.

(6) At the intersection, turn left onto a grassy path, then, opposite, onto a small road until you reach the main road (D725). Note that route no. 19 from La Roche-Posay is in the opposite direction.

(7) At the beautiful ornate cross, carefully cross the D725 again. Continue straight ahead until you reach the first path diagonally to the right. Follow this path along a field. At the bend, leave the path on the left to reach a crossroads.

(8) Turn left and enter the woods, leaving La Roche-Posay route no. 19. Ignore the path leading off to the left. At the T-junction, turn left, alternating between woodland and open ground until you reach the road.

(9) Turn left onto this road to reach the car park (S/E).
