Park in the Town Hall Square and follow the yellow signposts.
(S/E) At the hiking signpost, walk past the town hall and turn right onto Route de Châtellerault until you reach the three-way junction.
(1) Take the left-hand path, leaving the road on your right. Walk up the grassy, wooded lane until you reach the yellow directional sign.
(2) Turn right onto the stony track. At the next junction, take the road on the left and follow the verge until you reach the next junction at Saint-Hubert.
(3) Turn right onto the middle path, just after the wooden sign. Follow the long, straight, shaded path, lined with oak and chestnut trees, until you reach the tarmac-surfaced, private ‘Grande Allée’.
(4) Cross over and continue through the ferns and oak trees until you reach a junction of various paths.
(5) Carry on straight ahead. Start down the grassier slope flanked by embankments. Follow the wire fence on the left and head back up just below it. After a bend to the left, go down the dirt track towards the road.
(6) Go straight on along the road. Cross at the next junction and head up into a lovely wood. Turn right, then left, and head back down towards Les Montants until you reach the village.
(7) Walk past the beautiful wash house and head up to the right immediately afterwards. Walk past a picnic area. Ignore the path coming from the left. Carry on a little further, then turn sharply left along a wall. Head straight ahead onto the country lane at the restored oven. Then walk up between the hedges to the next crossroads.
(8) Turn right onto the Grand Chemin, lined with watchtowers on the right. Walk through the woodland. At the next junction, go straight on and take in the panoramic view as you walk along the fields to the yellow signpost.
(9) Leave the main track and veer right towards the woodland. At the edge of the woodland, head down a charming wooded slope with a lovely view. Further down, take in the view of La Guerche Castle and its village. Continue down to the road.
(10) Turn carefully right onto the hard shoulder of the D5. Walk past a wayside cross and, a little further on, turn sharply right towards the Moulin du Roy. Walk through the village then take the road on the left. Walk past a house and continue to the first path on the left.
(11) Take a sharp left onto this track through the fields. Start climbing and enter the chestnut woods. Ignore a track branching off to the left. Carry on to the junction at the top of the hill.
(12) Turn left between the fenced-in fields. Walk amongst ferns and gorse, then through the oak trees. At the next junction (Les Biez on the left), go straight on. At the next large crossroads, head straight ahead onto the grassy path (passing to the left of the bench) and carry on until you reach the road.
(13) Cross over to the opposite side onto the grassy path, which turns into a pleasant sunken track. Walk down to the road and turn left towards the village of La Chauvière. Continue downhill, enjoying the view of Mairé and its hills.
(1) At the bend, turn left and follow the route you took on the way out to reach the Place de la Mairie (S/E).
