Between beautiful mansions and the viaduct

Start from the car park at Place du Champ de Foire, opposite the town hall of Mouthiers-sur-Boëme and the post office.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, head right towards the COOP grocery store, walk past it and turn right, follow the road (Chemin de la Chauvetière), do not take the roads on the right, keep to the left. Pass the pumping station and, immediately afterwards, cross the Boëme. Continue past the Logis de Forge.

(1) Continue up the road, still ignoring the roads on the right, and reach the village of Le Morinau. Just before the bend to the left, look out for a path on the right.

(2) Turn right, just after the “book hut”, onto what looks like a poorly maintained track, but after a few metres it becomes more visible. Follow it downhill, skirting a field on the left and a wood on the right; just before the end of the field, be careful as it’s hard to see. Turn right into the wood, onto a single track, and follow the path to the end, at elevation 112.

(3) Turn left onto the main track, passing in front of La Cabane house.
Follow the road straight on, passing the hamlets of Chez Guérin and Chez les Rois, which are next to each other, ignoring the road on the right signposted Chez Boisblet. Continue, ignoring the Route du Bois Rablons, and keep to the right.
Continue for about 150 m, past the left-hand bend.

(4) Turn right, just in front of the house at no. 5; immediately after the house, there is a large farm building.
Go down the path, passing close to a pond.
Stay on the main path; do not go down to the pond.
Then continue, keeping to the right, along this long path of over a kilometre to finally reach the Moulin de Nanteuillet.

(5) Go straight on; this is a private track, but many hikers use it. About 100 m further on, turn right; do not go as far as the meadow. Head up into the woods, follow the narrow path which climbs steeply and continuously, passing close to a ruined house, which is not very visible. Follow this path to the end, where you will reach a T-junction.

(6) Turn left onto a wide path, and head down to the Viaduc des Coutaubières.

(7) At the road, turn right, follow it, pass the Moulin du Duc (lodge) and cross the next village, Chez Reigner.

(8) On leaving the village, just after the last house, turn right onto a grassy path that runs alongside a large hedge.
Head downhill, cross the bridge over the Boëme, and follow the path. At the 84-metre mark, ignore the two paths on the right; they are very close together, so take great care as they are on a bend – you must keep to the left.
Head uphill and join the road.

(9) Turn left and, via a very sharp bend, go down the small road and cross the Boëme again, arriving at the junction with another road. Turn right at the village of Le Garnier, follow the railway line along the small road which immediately becomes a path.
At the end, after the cemetery, take the D12 road opposite, which leads down to the Place du Champ de Foire and the car park (S/E).

Le Logis de Forge, whose foundation stones date back to the Hundred Years’ War, was rebuilt in the 15th century. Built on a flat rock, it overlooks a pond fed by the Forge resurgence. The gardens are open to visitors.

The Nanteuillet mill dates from the 17th century and was renovated in the 20th century.

The Coutaubières Viaduct was opened on 20 September 1852. Construction began in early 1850 and may even have started as early as late 1840. It consists of 12 arches, is 303 m long, 22 m high and 7.40 m wide. Situated on a bend in the track, it is itself curved.
