Park in the car park at the junction of the D107 and the street leading to the town hall and the village hall.
(S/E) Head right towards Saint-Cybard Church – one of the most remarkable Romanesque churches in the Angoumois region – and pop in for a look or perhaps a visit.
(1) Turn back, then take the path down to the left which leads onto the D437; take this road to the right. At the wash house, turn left and follow the grassy path straight ahead as it climbs: you are now on the secondary route from Tours to Santiago de Compostela, which crosses the Charente from north to south. At the end, take the D107 to the right.
(2) At the crossroads, turn left and follow the small road to Rouffiac for 1.3 km; beyond the vineyards, it offers a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and grain fields.
(3) Turn right behind the wash house, before the hamlet of Le Cluzeau, heading south. The path climbs alongside a wood. Leave this path, which continues towards the Butte du Télégraphe, the highest point in the commune, by turning left and then right 200 m further on to descend into the Écly valley.
(4) Turn right after the reservoirs and continue through the valley to Chez Guignée. Head down to the left into the hamlet and cross the road. Take the path opposite which descends into a small, green valley and continue to the edge of the woods.
(5) Turn right and follow it towards Lagonville. There, take the road on the left and immediately turn left between two vineyards. At the end, turn right and continue straight on towards the top of the hill, then head back down towards the pond.
(6) Ignore the path leading uphill, turn right and follow the valley towards Chez Normandin. Ignore two paths on the left and head towards a copse.
(7) Turn right immediately afterwards. On the left, note the numerous engineering structures allowing the Paris-Bordeaux high-speed rail line to cross the valleys. At the end of the path, follow the road to the left, then turn left again to reach a crossroads where you turn right to follow the road for about 100 m.
(8) Take the path on the left which runs alongside La Motte à Viaud. The bell tower of Plassac church appears and disappears as the chalky hills rise and fall.
(9) At the top, the sweeping panorama opens up to the east onto La Mercerie Castle and the borders of the Périgord. Continue straight on, cross the road and follow the grassy path opposite for 150 m before turning right onto the path that climbs up the embankment. Walk alongside the vineyard and head back towards the church.
Turn right to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
