Circular walk around Champagne-Vigny

This is my favourite running route. It follows only quiet roads, so it’s also suitable for walking. The landscape is hilly, with vineyards, other crops and a few scattered farms.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Opposite Saint-Christophe Church, turn right, then left. Leave the village of Champagne-Vigny.

(1) In the village of La Charbonnière, follow the road branching off to the left. Cross the River Ecly, then turn right.

(2) At the end, turn right again. At the junction in the village of Chez Guignée, turn right. The road goes through a wood and, after the village of Chez Maurice, joins the RD436.

(3) Turn right, leaving the village of Bécheresse on your left.

(4) When you reach the village of Chez Boutrit, turn right towards Champagne-Vigny. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the centre of Champagne-Vigny. Take the second right to reach the church (S/E).

Notes

Car park and picnic table near the church (next to the school).

Unfortunately, work on the high-speed rail line (LGV) will affect this lovely setting.

Worth a visit

Saint-Christophe Church: a Romanesque church
Domaine du Maine-Giraud (former home of Alfred de Vigny): the Alfred de Vigny Museum, a venue for temporary exhibitions (paintings, etc.), tours of the cellars, and sales of pineau*, cognac* and other beverages.
In this village and the neighbouring village of Bécheresse, there are numerous producers of pineau* and cognac*.

Sorry that the route didn’t suit you. But as I mentioned at the start, it’s an exclusively road-based route (which is handy when I’m running in the rain), so there shouldn’t be any surprises in that regard. However, thank you for pointing out the inaccuracies; I’ll make sure to correct them.
Kind regards

It’s quite simple: initially, it says “opposite the church, turn right, then right again”, whereas you actually need to turn right, then left…
In the village of Chez Guignée, you mustn’t turn right but simply carry on along the road; similarly, on the RD436 before the village of Chez Boutrit, a sign points towards Champagne-Vigny… I suppose this is a new road to make it easier to cross the new bridge over the LGV…
