Description of the route

Start from the supermarket car park on Avenue du Général de Gaulle.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, turn left onto Avenue du Général de Gaulle, then turn left onto Avenue du Lieutenant Atger and leave the village centre heading south. At the roundabout, continue straight ahead towards Maillane and follow the D5.

(1) At the end of Allée Jouse d’Arbaud, turn right onto Cours Jeanne d’Arc and follow this road to Place de l’Église.

(2) Carry on to the left then turn right onto Avenue Lamartine, heading towards Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, then follow the D27, which passes in front of the cemetery, and join the D99.

(3) Turn left for 100 m (caution: busy road), then rejoin the D27 on the right, heading towards Les Baux. Go straight on at a four-way junction and continue to the next one.

(4) Turn left onto the Ancienne Route d’Arles, then continue along the Chemin de la Croix d’Arles until you reach a bridge over the Canal des Alpines on your right.

(5) Cross the bridge (Chemin Gaulois), continue along Avenue Joseph d’Arbaud, cross the D5 (caution: heavy traffic) and carry on along Avenue Folco de Baroncellila. Carry on straight ahead along Avenue Jean Baltus, Chemin de la Croix des Vertus and Voie Aurélia, pass the sign marking the end of the built-up area of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and arrive at a Stop sign.

(6) Turn right, then left, onto Ancienne Voie d’Aurélia. Pass number 3573 (lodge) and arrive at a crossroad near the aerodrome.

(13) In Plan d’Orgon, at the traffic lights, turn right onto the Route de Cavaillon (D99), then, opposite the Esplanade de la Gare, take the cycle path on the left towards Saint-Andiol. Stay on the cycle path (former railway line), pass through Saint-Andiol and Cabannes, and reach the D30 at Noves.

(14) Leave the cycle path and turn left. At the next roundabout, turn left onto the D30 towards Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and continue to the roundabout just past the Town Hall. Carry on along the D30 and, at the next junction, turn right onto the D30b towards Eyragues. On leaving Noves, the road climbs gradually through woodland (the only difficult section of the ride).

(15) At the top of the climb, turn right towards Chateaurenard (D76a), and at the three-way junction, veer left onto Chemin Roumieux (D75a). Follow this departmental road, crossing the D571 and then the D34 with care, until you reach the end of Chemin Roumieux. Turn left and, after a few metres, you’ll come to a four-way junction.

(16) Turn right onto the D29, towards Graveson. At the D28, turn left and take thefirst road on the right.

(17) Follow this road, Boulevard du Général de Gaulle, into Graveson; at the roundabout, turn left and you’ll reach the supermarket car park (S/E).

A lovely walk that allows you to explore the villages of the Alpilles without the hassle of a car. A few changes of direction that were difficult to follow, and a couple of diversions due to roadworks along the route, meant we were unable to complete the entire route.
