The Alpilles Circuit

Park in the car park at Place Monier.

(S/E) As you leave the car park, turn left (south) onto Avenue Gabriel Peri.

(1) At the roundabout, turn right onto Avenue Saint-Roch and pass in front of the chapel of the same name. Leave the cemetery on your right and follow the D17 towards Aureille.

(2) At the roundabout, turn right onto the D25A, towards Aureille.

(3) Drive through Aureille and continue on the D25A.

(4) Turn left onto the D25 towards Eygalières.

(5) Continue straight on the D24 towards Eygalières.

(6) Turn right onto the D24B, Route de Sounegue. Continue along Avenue Léon Blum to Place Marcel Bonnet.

(7) Turn left onto Rue de la République (D74B), then right onto Avenue Lazare Kaspi. Continue along Route de la Gare and follow the D74A (Route de Jean Moulin).

(8) At the roundabout, continue straight on along the D24.

(9) At the roundabout, continue along Rue Lecours.

(10) At the next roundabout, turn left onto the D31, Avenue des Paluds, then the CD31, Route de Saint-Rémy. Pass a pumping station.

(11) After a left-hand bend, turn right to pass the Mas de Panière.

(12) Cross the Anguillon (river) and continue on the D31.

(13) At the junction, turn left onto the D30.

(14) At the roundabout, turn right onto Avenue du Général Goislard Monsabert.

(15) At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Avenue Jean Moulin.

(16) Then turn right onto Avenue de la Libération, towards Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

(17) At the next junction, turn right onto Boulevard Mirabeau. Take the second left, the D31, Boulevard Gambetta, then continue left onto Boulevard Marceau.

(18) Follow the main road to the right and, after the tea room, turn right onto Avenue Fauconnet.

(19) In front of the retirement home, turn left onto Route du Rougadou. Pass a wayside shrine topped with a cross and continue to the junction with the D2.

(20) Turn left onto the D27 towards Les Baux-de-Provence. Cross the Alpilles mountain range via a road carved into the rock. Pass the ‘carrière de lumière’ (light quarry) to reach the village of Les Baux.

(21) Leave the village entrance on your left and continue on the D27 towards Fontvieille. Carry on along the D78F until you reach the junction with the D17.

(22) At the junction, turn right onto the D17 towards Fontvieille.

(23) After the wayside shrine, at the fork, keep left onto the D17. Pass the quarry and continue straight on along Avenue des Baux to reach the roundabout with a wayside shrine topped by a cross.

(24) Take the 2nd right, Route du Nord, then Avenue Frédéric Mistral (D17A).

(25) Turn left onto Rue Maître Cornille then Rue Neuve to reach the post office. Cross Cours Alphonse Daudet to take Avenue des Moulins (D33) opposite. Pass the Moulin de Daudet and continue to the Croix de Jousseaud.

(26) At the junction with the D82, turn right onto the Route de l’Aqueduc or Route de Caparon, pass the aqueduct and continue to join the D78E.

(27) Turn left towards Paradou (a lane lined with plane trees). Ride through the village. At the post office, go straight ahead (no entry except for bicycles). Ride past the school and the town hall to join the D17.

(28) At the junction with the D17, turn right, passing an iron cross on a stone plinth on Avenue de la Vallée des Baux. Ride through Maussane-les-Alpilles, then follow the CD17 and then the D17

(29) Cross the Gaudre de Malaga and continue towards Mouriès.

(30) In Mouriès, after the roundabout, pass a grocery shop and the swimming pool on Avenue Roger Salengro and continue to the pharmacy.

(31) After the pharmacy, turn left onto Cours P. Revoil. At the roundabout, go straight on along Avenue des Alpilles (D24), towards Eygalières (sports complex).

(32) Continue straight on along the D24, leaving the D24a on your right, and pass the hamlet of Le Destet before tackling a short steep climb.

(5) Turn right to join and follow the D25, which you took on the way there.

(4) Continue straight on along the D25, and follow it to the D569.

(33) Follow the D569 to the right towards Eyguières.

(34) At the roundabout, take Rue Trinquetaille straight ahead, then continue onto Rue Craponne.

(35) Pass the war memorial and continue straight on along Rue Boigelin. First turn right then left and follow Rue des Frères Perret. You will reach Avenue Gabriel Peri and find the car park at Place Monier on your left (S/E).

On this cycle ride, bring water as there are few public refreshment points, except in cemeteries or shops.
Observe the highway code and take care on sections where the road is one-way except for cyclists.

Allow a full day for this ride as the Alpilles are magnificent.
