Eiðiskollur

Eiðiskollur is the summit of a peninsula located behind the village of Eiði on the island of Eysturoy.

This climb will take you to a breathtaking viewpoint over the isolated rocks (stacks) of the Giant and the Witch (Risin og Kellingin in Faroese) as well as a beautiful panorama of the highest peaks of Eysturoy (and the Faroe Islands).

At the end of the trail, you can enjoy watching seabirds playing in the currents.

Description of the walk

When you arrive in Eiði, cross the village and go up Kolsvegur Street, which winds its way past the school. Park at the end of the highest street in the village, Mainifløta.

(S/E) Go through the gate and head straight up to the left, along the fence.

The path quickly turns to the right, with a large cairn marking the top of a slightly steep hill in your sights. Then follow this path marked by imposing cairns. Pass through a boggy area as you reach the foot of an impressive slope.

(1) Continue climbing this path, which has very well-marked steps forming an attractive staircase. After this effort, the slope becomes gentler and the antennas near the summit come into view. Continue in the same direction, passing an old building, probably military, to reach the end of the climb.

(2) For those who are not prone to vertigo and if weather conditions permit, proceed with great caution to see the Giant and the Witch stacks nearly 350 m below!

Then retrace your steps to return to the starting point (S/E).

Notes

This hike is accessible with children, but take great care when approaching the cliffs near the summit. However, the trail is relatively far from the edge, but be careful with curious little ones, especially in windy or foggy conditions.

Wear waterproof boots. Some sections are very muddy. Walking sticks may be useful.
