Take the winding Route 53 from Hvalvík, drive along Lake Saksun (Saksunarvatn) and turn left at the end to reach the village of Saksun. There is a small car park in the middle of the village.
(S/E) Cross the village and descend along the road that runs parallel to the Gjógvará stream.
(1) At the end of the road, pass through the turnstile where you pay for this hike. Continue along the path that runs alongside the stream to Pollurin Lake. Walk along this lake until you reach the foreshore.
(2) If the tide allows, continue along the left bank of the stream/river and pass through the narrow gorge until you reach a large black sand beach.
To enjoy this vast wilderness, cross the beach to reach the other end of the beach on the left.
(3) Return to the starting point by retracing your steps, paying attention to the tide (S/E).
