Car park at Le Niver Chapel.
(S/E) Walk round the chapel, head towards the old bar and take the road on the right (towards Trégourez), taking care as you pass near the agricultural co-operative; follow this road and go past Ty Bodiou.
GR®®38signposting: White and Red
(1) After passing an old garage, do not take the road leading directly to Gulvain but take the next one on the right, the Route de Scoldy (markedGR®®38), and head down to Gulvain following theGR®® trail, passing close to an old dance hall (“La Guinguette”, currently being renovated).
(2) Go round the chapel (or cross through the cemetery) and follow the road uphill.
(3) Turn left onto a grassy path, leaving theGR®® to continue straight on; follow this path, then turn right to join a wider path which descends steeply and leads through a wood to a road.

(4) Turn left and follow this road, which crosses a stream. Pass Kerninon (a beautiful stone house) and, at the crossroads, turn left (sign for Pépinières A. Campion, towards Gulvain-Le Niver). Continue along this road for about a hundred metres.
(5) Turn right towards Kervella, go round the houses (beautifully renovated) and continue along the wide path to the right until you reach the junction with another path (GR®® 38).

(6) Turn left and follow this wide path. Shortly after crossing a stream, continue straight ahead, leaving theGR®® which turns left.

Carry on until you reach the large livestock farms at Stang Jean.
(7) Turn right and follow the small road as it climbs. At the Penn ar Menez sign, turn left. Go round the hamlet (do not take the wide path that continues straight ahead) and carry on climbing to the right to join a main road.
(8) Turn left. (Stunning panoramic view of the Montagnes Noires). The road leads to Saint-Jean, where the chapel is located.
(9) (You can visit the fountain at Ménez Saint-Jean, 200 m away; turn right at an old building (sign for the fountain broken in 2014). When you come to a new house, turn left at a block of quartz and follow the hedge: the fountain is below the house.
(10) Retrace your steps.
(9) Turn right onto the road and, at the crossroads, turn left and enter the enclosure to walk round the Saint-Jean Chapel (a lovely wooded area with a picnic table). On leaving, turn left. Follow this road as it descends and joins the road coming from Edern. Turn left at the ‘50 herds’ sign, pass Mézangazec and head towards the Chapelle du Niver (S/E)
About 100 metres to the south, there is a grassy area with a fountain and an altar.
