From Moulin de Craca to Beauport Abbey

This section ofthe GR®34connects the Moulin de Craca on the heights of Plouézec to Beauport Abbey.
To return to your starting point, take the road back, which offers views of Paimpol Bay and Bréhat Island. Once you have climbed back up to the plateau and passed Sainte-Barbe Chapel, follow the small, flat roads back to the mill.

Magnificent landscapes, after Beau-Père Abbey, a few cars on the road leading up to Ste Barbe.
Paths sometimes slippery, good footwear necessary.
A very beautiful route.

I redid this route, which I was familiar with. The GR section has deteriorated significantly due to heavy rainfall. The "steps" have collapsed in places, making the route more physically demanding! Therefore, caution is advised in bad weather.

The views are magnificent.

We did this route on a beautiful, sunny and warm Whit Monday, starting from the car park at Beauport Abbey rather than Moulin de Craca. This meant that the route was 1.5 km longer, so we did it backwards without any major difficulty in finding our way.
The views of the Abbey, Paimpol Bay and Bréhat in the distance are splendid, and although the GR trail is a bit challenging (with numerous elevation changes and often uneven steps that are hard on the legs), it is so pleasant with its intermingled scents of wood, flowers and sea. The route is often shaded, which is a great advantage in hot weather. As a result, when you do the route in reverse, you arrive at the Moulin de Craca a little worn out and red as a peony, where you can take a breather while admiring the mill and the magnificent landscape in the background.
The return trip along the ridge is more relaxing as it follows small streets with little traffic and is not without interest either, as there are still beautiful views, pretty houses and flowers galore. And if you want, you can rejoin the GR at various points, which is what we did after point 5. We rejoined at point 3 near the oyster farm, where there is an oyster bar, which is unfortunately closed at this time of year!

Even on a grey day, the panoramic views of the mill on the horizon, then the islands of Mez Goelo, Saint-Riom, and further afield Bréhat, will leave you with some unique memories. We stop for a few more moments at Kerarzic to contemplate the silhouette of Beauport Abbey, and here and there to watch the seabirds on the shores through our binoculars. On the way back to the plateau, along the paths and small roads, late 19th-century rural dwellings built of granite stand alongside contemporary houses to suit all tastes. A little strength and stamina are required on the coastal section of the GR 34, which is sometimes very steep, and in the Beauport woods, where the last storm has just blown through, requiring a few acrobatic manoeuvres between the broken, chopped and felled trees. It all smells of salt and wind – in a word, Brittany...

A beautiful hike with magnificent panoramic views. From point 4 onwards, the road is ever-present but not very busy at this time of year. On the other hand, there are some sublime viewpoints.
