From the Leval backwater to the Monceau brewery

Park at the entrance to the Leval backwater.

(S/E) Walk around the oxbow lake, keeping to your left. Before reaching the canal, you will come to a fork.

(1) Walk around the inner circular path of the backwater area, taking the path on the right.

(1) When you return from the circular, turn right and then immediately right again, walking along the Sambre on your left. Ignore the path on the right that takes you back to the circular of the oxbow lake, but take the next one on the right and you will return to the starting point.

(S/E) Continue left towards Rue des Prés until you reach Leval Church, which you will keep on your left. You will arrive at Rue Marcel Ringeval.

(2) Cross over, make a first turn left then right and continue straight ahead on Rue du Monceau. Walk along the Tarsies on your left, go straight ahead and note La Cressonnière on your left.

(3) Cross the railway line and continue straight ahead, along the Tarsy, until you reach the fork on Rue du Leval.

(4) Head straight ahead and turn right onto Rue des Francs Bourgeois. At the end, turn right to discover the Tour farm.

(5) Retrace your steps and continue straight ahead until you reach Rue Quéant, which you take on the left. Ignore Ruelle de la Place on your right, walk along the square on your right and follow the bend to the left to continue on Rue de Leval. Go straight ahead and you will find yourself back at the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(4) Turn right onto Rue de la Brasserie - La Glorieuse craft brewery. When you reach Route d'Avesnes, turn left and ignore a path on your right, continuing until you reach the fork at Rombise.

(6) Keep left, then continue straight ahead and you will find La Cressonnière on your left. Cross the railway line.

(7) Continue straight ahead until you reach Rue Marcel Ringeval.

(8) Turn left onto this street, ignore Rue de la Brasserie on your right and cross the bridge over the Tarsy, then turn right onto the street before the church. Follow the path on your right that leads to the dead end of Rue des Prés and you will find your vehicle (S/E).

Be careful on rural roads and obey the highway code: when walking on a road without a pavement, you must walk on the left-hand side to face oncoming traffic.
